Fajar Chinese Restaurant - Manyar — Restaurant in Surabaya

Fajar Chinese Restaurant is quite a well-known Chinese restaurant in Surabaya. They are famous for their noodles (yammie) as well as their Hakka-style foods (like the vegetables tossed with red rice wine).

Some of the food I’ve tried include: I Fu Mi - I Fu Mi consists of their yellow noodles topped with the gravy. For the vegetarian option (upon request), the gravy has mushroom and vegetable shreds.

Kakap Tahu Tausi - The snapper (kakap) is thinly battered and is deep fried. The black bean sauce is poured on top of it. What I enjoyed most is that the black bean is mashed, instead of serving it as ‘whole beans’. Do remember to request for no chilli if you don’t like it to be spicy.

Xiang Mak Belut - Xiang mak vegetable is stir-fried with garlic and red rice wine — giving it a slightly sweet flavor. It is topped with deep fried bits of eel.

Sapo Kaki Babi - The pork trotter claypot is not the typical ‘dark sauce’ braised pork trotter. It is cooked in a ‘red sauce’ that is sweet and savory. The pork trotter itself is very tender and collagen-y.

Hipio Babi Seafood - Very thick fish maw is stir-fried with pork slices, pork stomach, and seafood. The dish is well seasoned.

Fajar Chinese Restaurant in Manyar offers a spacious dining environment with plenty of seating, making it a suitable choice for both small and larger groups. Like many restaurants in the area, parking is somewhat limited, so plan accordingly. The food quality is commendable, with a nice variety of dishes that are well-prepared and flavorful. For those seeking a more private or quiet dining experience, the restaurant also offers a VIP room, which is a nice touch. Service is efficient with relatively fast serving times, which is always appreciated. The only caveat is the pricing, which is a bit on the higher side. However, given the overall quality of food and service, it might be justified for some. It was my first time having dinner @ Fajar Chinese Restaurant Manyar Kertoarjo, but I m really sorry to give 1-2 stars review, just because : the taste of noodle (the chicken) seems not new/fresh in my nose/tounge I was angry in that time for the worse service of the waitress (I forget her name). She take away the pickles, chili sauce from our tables in order to close the outlet whereas still one hour before closing Time. I was offended. I felt expelled. Anyways, I m the customer, right ? I deserve the best service...
