I had high hopes for Cafe Algeria, given its charming location and quaint decor, but unfortunately, my experience fell drastically short of expectations. From the outset, the service was dishearteningly poor. The staff seemed overwhelmed and distracted, which translated into a lack of warmth or welcome upon arrival.
The wait time for a table was the first sign of trouble, stretching far beyond the usual during a not overly busy time. Once seated, the long wait continued, extending to the order-taking and the arrival of our meals. The excessive delay was frustrating and made even more so by the lack of communication from the staff, who offered no updates or apologies for the wait.
When our food finally arrived, it was incorrect. My order was mixed up with someone else's, and my friend's dish was missing several key ingredients listed on the menu. Trying to get these issues corrected was another ordeal, as it was difficult to get the attention of the staff. When we did manage to speak to someone, the response was curt and the resolution, unsatisfactory.
The overall atmosphere of Cafe Algeria, which might have offered some redemption, was overshadowed by the frustration of the experience. It was disappointing to see such potential wasted by poor service and operational mismanagement.
In conclusion, Cafe Algeria was a letdown. With so many other options available, I cannot recommend a place where the basic tenets of hospitality—cordial service, efficiency, and accuracy—are so lacking. It’s a shame, as the setting promises so much more than the...
Read moreThe Alegria is a fine restaurant, close to the very busy Gili Air harbour and jetty. It's a great place to chill, while waiting for your boat, or if you need a leisurely bite, after a long boat journey from Nusa Penida or Bali. The dining area is eclectic and attractive, and poses tough choices as to where to sit - there's seating under a covered roof, seating in a garden and then there's seating on a wooden deck across the road, shaded by large trees. I chose the latter, because it had a clear view of the jetty and the boats coming in to disembark passengers or leaving after taking on passengers. The Gili Air harbour is a busy one, with boats of all shapes and sizes, against dazzling blue waters and a clear view of the mountains in Lombok not far away. The food and beverage prices are a bit pricey, but given its prime location, that shouldn't be a surprise. The staff are polite and friendly. You're attended to quickly and the...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing 👏 😍 ❤️ I had already tried breakfast here which I loved so of course I wanted to try dinner too! Everything about Alegria is wonderful! The restaurant is stunning, perfect for a date night, family meal, meeting friends. The ambience is perfect 🥰 💞 as are the helpful friendly staff. The food is incredible, we ordered the pear and gorgonzola salad, the rib eye steak and the pork belly and we followed it with the flour less chocolate cake and pistachio ice cream. Everything was cooked to perfection, presented beautifully and tasted devine! This place is exactly what Gili Air has been missing and we will definitely be back for round 2 (or is it 3) before we leave...
