A big THANK-YOU shout out to Emma, Fredy and their cute little boy Gilian. Fredy was very passionate about his restaurant and introduces me about this Canadian national dish-Poutine. It was my first time trying this and I loved it. Other than the restaurant, they also have guest rooms and provide laundry service. Their laundry price is very reasonable and I've done twice with them. The restaurant itself is also very online working friendly.
I was there a few days before my final leaving date. Somehow we talked about the eVisa extension and I suddenly recalled that for some reasons after I extended my eVisa online. I only shows one more valid day of the stay permit. And the website says I "Overstay 23 days"!!! I was shocked and panic. I immediately asked Fredy see if any of their guests have encountered such a problem before and what I should do. After careful consideration we all think that I should go to Mataram Immigration Office asap to seek solution about this case. Fredy provided my a contact in Mataram in case I need assistance over there. Emma helped me to get into contact with the local bus driver from Bangsal Terminal to Mataram city center. They went every way possible to calm me and help me. Thank you again Emma and Fredy!
When I made my way to the Mataram Immigration Office, Emma also helped me over the phone to push even a bit more on solving my case. Coz clearly it's the eVisa web system error and I couldn't afford to sit wait for an indefinite answer. After a long and tiring battle day at the Immigration, I got a correct stay permit with the correct date on it.
I can't express enough my gratitude to Emma and Fredy. People is always the most important factor in any travel experience in my opinion. Guys, if you haven't heard or tried poutine before, give it a try. You...
Read moreCanadian here. I can vouch. Those are some authentic style cheese curds and are significantly better than many of the poutine curds I've had back home. I also ordered the "hamburger steak." I can't say that this is an authentic Canadian dish, as it's not something that I often see on the menu at restaurants there. With that said, I have nostalgic memories of visiting the Salisbury House restaurants in Manitoba when we used to visit family. And they indeed offered a salisbury steak quite like what I just enjoyed. Heaped with onions and I think a meaty sauce of some kind (this place offers it with a big scoop of gravy, which is totally on point), I always looked forward to stopping there in our travels. But this isn't about Manitoba, it's about Poutine Paradise. I'm glad that I happened across this place and got to enjoy a little taste of Canada....
Read moreIt was nice to have a taste of home with solid poutine. Cut the rating a star given the high price for a meal that can be sourced with majority local ingridients. They were out of cheese curds as well, which was a bit of a bummer. The ambiance and seating is nice, and it was cool to talk to the Montreal born owner for a bit. Worth trying out if on Gili Air!
EDIT IN RESPONSE TO OWNER: I appreciate the response, notably concerning the ingredients cost given the supply chain and the low/high season variance. I will hold my rating, but encourage all Canadians to visit Poutine Gili Air as after further review ~$12-15 CAD for a poutine is fair value given the circumstances listed. My initial price take was more considering comparisons to other Warungs/lower scale...
