LOKA CAFE LOMBOK — Restaurant in West Nusa Tenggara

Overall, LOKA was one of my favourite restaurants in Kuta because it is good value for money. There are plenty of other restaurants that are fancier, but you end up paying much more for the same quality (sometimes they are actually no good) and less quantity. Basically, some trendy cafes were you don't leave full nor blown away by the food or staff. In LOKA, however, things are simplier but good, with plenty of options and healthy ones. The staff is super nice, they became like friends after going so many days. And their dog is lovely! I came for breakfast/lunch and dinner and everything was great. My favourite dishes were the nasi goreng, breaky wrap and protein bowl, but really everything is good. Also the chocolate peanut butter cookie is delicious. I really like they have an option to build your own plate/bowl with all the essentials (greens, protein, fats, carbs) and amazing hydratying drinks (kombucha, coconut water, juices). HARASSED BY STAFF!

The concept of the place is great, healthy food, gym and chill/spa area all together. The restaurant is nice and the gym is one of the best in the area. As a guest of the Neptune Rooms, breakfast was provided by the restaurant itself and was generally very good.

However, we went for dinner one night and the experience was disastrous. We wanted to order take away and while we were deciding a waiter came up to us to "literally" bother us. Despite asking him for some space to decide what we wanted, he kept talking to us asking questions and making uncomfortable comments. In addition, he kept offering us services outside the restaurant, like going fishing on a boat he claimed to have (in exchange for money, of course).

He was interested in taking our food to our room (our hotel has this agreement with the restaurant) and when he arrived he wanted to get into the room. I had to push him out of the way. He even made an obscene comment about things not going could be done with my partner...

I’ve been to Loka Café many times because the food is usually fair in both price and quality. However, I’ve had a few experiences that really concern me, especially with the simplest orders.

On one occasion, they served me mouldy bread and tried to cover it by putting eggs on top. Another time, they brought out eggs in a bowl where the bottom was filled with milk. Both situations show a real lack of quality control, and honestly, it’s unacceptable. If this were my business, I’d make sure strong measures were in place to prevent things like this.

To their credit, both times the staff acknowledged the problem and replaced the food. But after that, I no longer trust them with something as basic as eggs.
