Hotel Review: Upper Deluxe Room with Balcony. Stayed here for 9 nights. Definitely a 3 star hotel not 4. Room was rather basic but comfortable and needed a lot of TLC. Our fridge was broken and bean bags were covered in bird poo. On check in we werent given any information about the hotel e.g. WiFi, breakfast times etc. It would definitely benefit from a guest book or information in the room. We had booked directly which included an offer of free breakfast but upon check in this wasn't upheld and we had to provide evidence that we booked this- not the best start to our stay. Our room was overlooking the bar so there was noise around 7am most mornings and we could hear the bar music until about 10/10:30pm. Loud music was heard until 3am from a few nearby bars which could make it difficult to sleep if you are a light sleeper. Wasn't the quiet experience we originally hoped for. Pool was lovely and relaxing and some loungers were reserved for guests on the beach. Restaurant staff helped us organise bike rental for a few days which meant we could travel around the island snorkeling. But staff didn't seem to communicate well as we had rented bikes and paid at reception but then we're approached by another member of staff (restaurant) asking for the bikes back or immediate payment as they thought we hadn't paid. All was sorted in the end but communication could improve.
Restaurant Review: Staff were so lovely and welcoming! Gorgeous beach front restaurant and very relaxing! Lunch and dinner menu was delicious, although few issues with the menu differing to what actually arrived, for example we ordered pancakes with matcha powder and passionfruit but it came with yogurt and berry instead. Breakfast was supposed to come with beetroot pate but came with humus instead. We ordered a 2019 bottle of wine but we're given a 2023 bottle and were charged the same price. I queried this but was told it was the same price. Hotel breakfast was highly limited (only two choices) and when we asked for some butter for the plain toast we were...
Read moreWe have just returned from 4 nights in Mowies, where we paid for a ‘seaside superior bungalow’. ||We stayed at Mowies towards the end of our trip in Indonesia, where we’d been lucky enough to stay in some very nice hotels. We therefore felt a little underwhelmed upon check in. ||Firstly the location, staff, bar and restaurant area were all very very good. The bungalows are just across from the beach, which is perfect for sunsets and Mowies serves great food and drinks (the quality and presentation of the food and drinks was probably some of the best we’d experienced in Indonesia, and therefore we agree it deserves a slightly higher price, but honestly wasn’t much more!). Lots of other guests visit Mowies to use their bar/restaurant services, and we enjoyed being able to walk minutes to a huge variety of other options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the beautiful island also. ||The bungalow itself is where we were disappointed. I appreciate you don’t come on holiday to sit in your room, but equally it just felt rather basic… ||The room was fairly dark with a damp smell, and of the 4 windows, only 1 (the main sliding door) had a curtain, meaning we had to wear an eye mask to be in darkness. ||The room was provided with one small wardrobe, meaning we were limited on space for our clothes, there was also no kettle or space for tea/coffee. ||The towels we were provided in the bathroom weren’t changed during our stay either, making them rather smelly towards the end of our visit! ||We would 100% return to Gili Air and felt it was the perfect mix of beauty and facilities, however I feel we’d choose to stay elsewhere and only visit Mowies for dinner/drinks during our stay. ||For fast boats to/from Bali and Lombok, we’d recommend the Golden Queen. Very comfortable (lots of seats and ventilation) and only an hour...
