Considering I don’t live in Iran and that I love chelokabab, I eat and enjoy almost any chelokabab from any kababi in Tehran and think they are delicious. This place was on my list for over two years. I finally made it there today and sadly I was very disappointed. We were told to have a kabab kardi which is meant for two people. Our lunch came divided in two plates which was nice, but honestly we had to look for the kababs because the pieces too little. We were surprised by the size of the kabab, but still were excited and were looking forward to the taste considering the good reviews! Unfortunately, I have to say this was the worst kabab kobideh I have ever had. Even the worst ones in California are still better than this one. They don’t use ground meat; they kind of hammer the meat which still could have turned out something good, but this wasn’t. It was not the common and standard tender and juicy Irani kobideh one expects. It is more like Turkish or Mediterranean kabob yet not as good as them either. The kabob was something chewy and hard and dry and very difficult to cut with only spoon and fork for usually knife is not offered in kababies. And, to make the experience worse it came cold, so cold that I could not eat my lunch. Bad and sad experience! Last but not least, this place is very over priced for what they offer specially considering it is a very old and small and basic place which is typical for that area. A hole in the wall kind of place in the busy stinky noisy crowded Khayam Street which would had been ok if the food was good enough to...
Read moreWith my wife, we spent pleasing time there. This restaurant deserves being remembered with its original name that goes after the name of its founder: Hosein Maykhoone-chi. The only downside (not sure if that's a real downside) is its perplexing address that would make it difficult for the owner to spread the fame of the place. I found everything in harmony there: from the food quality and its personnel attitudes to the design and architecture of the building. Everything was reminiscent of the high quality Iranians could experience in the past, at least 6-7 decades ago. The time that there was less room for deceit and pretentious kindness. We were offered warm greetings by the cashier as well the servants. When we asked for the menu, they brought a huge dish of uncooked kebabs in different sizes and materials (see the photo) and we simply pointed to the one we wanted to taste; such a lovely and appealing menu. Side dishes included the traditional appetizers: garlic-yogurt, beer, onion, pepper, water melon, bread and extra spices you could add to the food before eating. And the kebab arrived!!! Superb... Extremely delicate, amazingly tasty and tinder. We had it with two plates of Iranian rice (real Iranian rice not mixed with Indian rice). One kebab was more than enough for me and my wife. To sum up, I would describe Ghadah restaurant, authentic and brilliant. Hopefully the keep the place...
