We are big fans of their take away sushi which we always bought from Sensei restaurant, the other store they own close to the Mercy Hospital. Our experience has always been outstanding and we were excited to try the all-you-can-eat option at Mayumi Restaurant on Sunday at lunchtime. The location is excellent but as soon as we walked in we realised that the premises were not heated at all. We were 4 adults and a 2 and a half toddler. Apart from being quite cold there was no background music playing and the environment was not warm and welcoming. From the menu we saw that there was a very limited all-you-can-eat sushi selection but we decided to give it a go and go ahead with the order. All of a sudden the electricity went out and it triggered an alarm that went off in the entire room. None of the staff, not even the owner, was able to turn it off. An electrician arrived after 15 minutes and then other two colleagues joined him but no one could take any action. Meanwhile, the first order took over 30 minutes to arrive, the second round another 30 minutes. They brought us a different wine (red) than the one we ordered saying no fresh white wine was stored in the fridge. We spent an hour and a half with the alarm that kept going off without the staff or the electricians being able to intervene. The owner was genuinely petrified and apologised to the customers, we really appreciated that, however we were not offered any complimentary food/drink/dessert as a good will gesture to make it better after the horrible experience nor did they even think of applying a little discount to our bill. Even small things can make a huge difference, we didn’t feel valued. When we were at the till the alarm eventually stopped…it turned out to be a faulty Eat It appliance for the take away orders. Our lunch was supposed to be a well deserved treat after an extremely hard week and it converted in the worst nightmare ever. We’ll still order take away sushi from Sensei but we’ll definitely stay clear from Mayumi as service was...
Read moreOrdered food on 2 occasions. 1st time, sushi was average and they didn't have some of their menu options available. Ordered a katsu don and when we went to collect, they told me they didn't have any of the accompanying miso soup. Didn't get an offer for anything else instead or a discount on the meal as a component was missing. Thought maybe it's because they have only opened recently so fair enough, I let it go. Gave them a 2nd chance and we ordered some sushi and a tonkatsu ramen about 1 month later. Worst experience of ramen EVER! As soon as I tasted the broth it was like drinking pure fat. Tasted of boiled bone and fat and had small bits of actual bone in it. Was vile, couldn't finish it. See pic for what the remainder looked like the next day..it actually was pure fat. I know tonkatsu is made from bones but go have a tonkatsu ramen in Douglas to experience what it's actually supposed to taste like. As for the sushi, it was a poor version because the rice was not flavoured. Basics of sushi - sushi uses flavoured rice (vinegar, salt & sugar). Without this, sushi is bland and tastes off despite any fillings. It might sound petty but it's actually crucial to sushi being good. Very dissapointing and won't be going back a 3rd time. For reference total cost listed includes both...
Read moreGreat place for Japanese food, which is rare to find in Cork, and Philippine cuisine, which was the first time we’ve tried, and we loved it.
Japanese food: great variety of sushi, sashimi and hot food with reasonable price (please don’t inflate as the other restaurants are doing in Cork), best of all, they have an all-you-can-eat option on some days of the week that I think it is great for us who lives in Cork.
Their sushi are delicious are super creative, we ordered one of their sushi platters (Mixed Sushi Platter), the Rock-and-Roll and the Salmon Aburi, they were all delicious (see pictures)
Philippine food: amazing!!! We ordered the SisigSilog which comes with pork cut and fried in tiny pieces, fried rice and egg. We also tried their dessert called Halo-Halo which was and explosion of flavors
Well done and amazing food either great service. I hope you keep the same and please, please, don’t inflate your prices as the other restaurants do as they start...
