So rather than stay in and get Sliced delivered, myself and my partner decided to travel all the way out to Ballincollig so we could enjoy some drinks with our pizzas. Had booked a table and was very much looking forward to pizza and a cosmopolitan. Sat at the table and the water glasses were so dirty you could feel the dirt on them. Asked for new glasses and the server made a face. Ordered drinks to start, cosmo and an IPA. More than 10 minutes go by, no drinks and still haven’t placed food order. Eventually tall guy comes down and says there no ingredients for anything other than a mojito. I won’t lie, I was disappointed to no end as it’s the main reason we came all that way. No ciders other than Bulmers either so disappointedly stuck with water and waited for food. Another server came down (curly hair) and she asked had we ordered. I thought she meant drinks so I explained that the guy had said there wasn’t any ingredients. Even she was surprised and said “we can just go get them, no problem”, and off she went. A while later the tall guy came back with a Cosmo. Delighted!
When I saw the server with curly hair pass our table, I tipped her a tenner to say thanks. Five mins later the tall guy comes to our table and said “Just so you know, I went and got those ingredients on my own initiative, not her”… we were both sitting there with pizza in our mouths like…. “What?” I asked him would there be a big fight so, because he seemed annoyed that we tipped her and not him! He said he said that because he “didn’t want her to get all the credit”. We were so bamboozled afterwards, it was like being in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. We laughed but spent the rest of the meal realising how utterly inappropriate that was to do to two paying diners trying to enjoy a date evening out.
The only reason we’re giving three stars is because the food was nice & the curly haired server saved it by being so kind and sorting the drink ingredients out. Understandable if people are having an off day but don’t be giving diners dirty glasses & guilt trips with their meals.
Cheers to the curly haired server in a blue shirt (sincere apologies we didn’t get your name) for saving the evening! To the tall guy who felt the need to tell us he didn’t want her getting all the credit, I hope you have a...
Read more30/08/2025: Sadly, I have to amend my glowing review from 8 months ago. Tonight's visit was nothing like the last one. No vegan cheese, no other vegan options on the menu and no offers from staff to amend any pasta dishes either (all things we were assured were the case 8 months ago). Went for a pizza without any cheese as that was out only option. Then, we were one dish short when the food came - they had forgotten one pizza. No offer to bring a small salad or a slice of bread or anything for the person left without food while the other three ate (food would've gone cold). Which created an uncomfortable atmosphere at the table with three people feeling guilty for eating and one person watching the rest eat. Not nice. When the forgotten pizza finally came, it was half burnt on one side, so we returned it. Didn't ask for a replacement as things had gone on too long by now. Staff didn't seem overly bothered. Left us sitting among empty dishes for ages later before anyone came and cleared things away and asked if we wanted dessert. Nasty draft from the front door that wouldn't close properly unless someone pulled it closed. One of us had to get up 4x to close the door after people coming or going - staff didn't notice a thing. Overall, aside from the fact that Sliced is taking a big step back now by not catering to vegan customers anymore, it seemed like staff didn't care much about anything (coffee was weak, draft from the door, dishes piling up, one dish from the order forgotten). Any one of the issues tonight wouldn't bother me as things can always go wrong, but the sum of it does. Sad to have to take this off my list of options for a nice dinner out now. Went with two couples tonight; two vegans and two omnivores. There were no obviously vegan options on the menu, but we were told they had vegan cheese, so could make us whatever pizza we chose with that. Service was really nice and the food was excellent, both vegan and non-vegan. We had a lovely dinner out, everyone was full and...
Read moreIf I could rate this place less than one star I would… As soon as I sat down the server was rude and tried to rush us without us even looking at the menu. We said we needed one moment, took him literally 10 minutes to come back. Whatever we can get passed that. I asked for a drink on the menu and then he said “i think we can make that but im not sure” me thinking I read the menu wrong, he later said he’s just never had to make it himself. Between drinks and ordering food we were never checked on even after I had tried to get his attention several times and him physically passing me while I made eye contact. He also commented on how fast I drank my beverage after it had been HALFWAY through the meal bc I had to yet again flag him down for service. At that point we decided this man was extremely rude to guests as he clearly made me upset and walked away. a female server walked by and I asked her for a drink and she put a warm glass of soda water and a shot of spirit in it, no ice, no lemon, just a straw and when I asked what it was she walked away…. At the end of several more interactions I got an excuse from the male server about why the drink was warm even though I had asked about why no ice was even offered. No apologies for the food, the comment, the warm cocktail without ice. Idk I have had some pretty poor service but this was absolutely the worst in my opinion and first time o felt I needed to...
