I recently went on a first date here because I wanted to go somewhere quiet, away from the city, with a decent pint, and to enjoy a conversation in comfort and privacy. These points were especially important as my date was a recent widow who lost her husband in a house fire and was nervous going back on the dating scene - and I'm married.
First of all, let me say that the pints of stout are some of the best in Ireland, and very reasonably priced. 10/10. Cannot be faulted.
However, I think the management of this establishment need to take a look inward and question their morals regarding some of the clientele they are letting in. As my night progressed, it felt less and less like The Beer Garden which was recommended to me, and more and more like Tony Soprano's house. There were several groups of young men talking extremely loudly and aggressively, and openly talking about taking cocaine.
As time progressed, they went from convivial and gregarious, to misanthropic and boisterous. As chaos ensued, my date and I became increasingly uncomfortable as the gang of drug addicts began moving closer and closer to our seats. At one point we were in such close range that I could hear every word of their conversation. One of them was gloating about how he punched a swan at The Lough.
A short time later, they were so close that they were basically sitting under my nose. At that point, I felt so uncomfortable and was wishing I could just snort them out of existence. My date and I excused ourselves and left the establishment and walked in silence the whole way home. Needless to say, my day was ruined.
Good Beamish though, I...
Read moreThe food was great the prices were very expensive over the high rate of living in Ireland plus vat and tax charges. You can't blame that on the restaurants and publicans so five stars all around. Just glad now at this stage that there is still a local pub left around that can serve great food served by nice staff in a busy and yet relaxed atmosphere.
It would of being nice if the bangers and mash came with a side of gravy to pour over as an little extra as we Al like our mash and gravy different. Wings were cooked beautifully with Franks wild sauce a bit to spicy hot and vinegary for me next time must try the mild. The big jug of water was welcomed.
The burger top notch a few more chips would have been nice as we shared, great that it came with a side salad with colsaw. Nice pint of Heineken pricey €6.50 but that is now the norm over the increase of living costs and trying to keep businesses open still you can find pints cheaper at the moment for now.
All in all great experience at the beer gardens great staff service and food nice cozy beer garden out the back with a screen.
Good result in the hurling for Cork V Dublin hopefully they can go all the way and lift that heavy cup...
Read moreCame into this establishment for food. Travelled from Monaghan as children went to Kodaline. Myself and mother decided to have food while we waited. Asked at door do they serve food and was told yes by a friendly chap at door. Came in and was greeted by a nice gentleman who seated us after we enquired about food. That was it then. I had to ask 5mins later for a menu as no one came near us. They I asked a young chap if he could take out order. He Said he'd be back in a sec. 10mins later and still waiting. I then had to approach the same man who seated us and say we were still waiting to be served. He said he would organise that, came back to me 2mins later and we were still there waiting. He took our order then. Mum and I both ordered steak sandwich (we were both asked how would we like it cooked). Mum said we'll done I said rare medium. Food and drink came. Chips were lovely along with salad and pepper sauce. Te meat was more like roast beef from a Sunday dinner and well done. Mum's was so tough she needed the pepper sauce. For €17.95 I...
