I would really like to thank the Black Forge Inn and all the staff there for making my husband and I's 10 year wedding anniversary so memorable. The venue itself is very welcoming as was the lovely lady at front of house -they even remembered that we had travelled up from Swansea specifically to visit the bar for our wedding anniversary (I booked it as a surprised for my husband)
We were shown to our seats which had a view to the kitchen where we could see the food being made and how clean it was! (Which is great as I suffer from Ocd when it comes to my food as I have a severe allergy to mushrooms)
Our server was fabulous, regretfully I didn't get her name which I apologise for as she was fab and made wonderful conversation with us (even if she did mistake us for English lol) and we did have to wait a while for our drinks after a mix up /being brought a beer and charged for it when I ordered alcohol free as I'm training 🍺 but that was the only very slight negative if you can even call it a negative -it didn't cloud our visit though.
When the starters were brought out (incredibly quickly) I was incredibly surprised by the portion size!! The Irish sure do like to feed you - and it was delicious. The starters of the goats cheese balls and the crab croquettes were very generous and beyond tasty.
My husband had the steak (sizzling) and rare -the stone is hot so that you can continue to cook it to your liking but we always eat steak rare so it came out perfect.
My buttermilk burger was AMAZING! I was so stuffed by the starter that I really struggled through the main course. I was determined to eat it- but my goodness it was massive-proper comfort food, like you had just gone home to your mams who just keeps feeding you.
The host is an absolute diamond, such a sweetheart and made an effort.to talk to everyone in the whole venue including us- and we even had a picture with connors belt that made my husbands day
We chose Dublin to visit not just to see where my husbands family.come from but to also visit the black forge and it was worth every penny.
It's not just a perfect place for couples but also families and the prices are ridiculously reasonable for the portions and i was surprised it didn't cost more!
Thank you for making our visit so amazing and we will be back next year with our daughter! (This...
Read moreOn a spontaneous whim, my wife and I decided to visit The Black Forge Inn, primarily due to my admiration for Mr. McGregor. We were immediately captivated by the warm and inviting ambiance, which set the stage for an exceptional dining experience.
Our meal began with the Tacos, which were truly delightful. As a personal suggestion, incorporating finely sliced Oshinko pickles in place of the watercress might add an extra layer of flavour and texture to the dish.
For the main course, my wife enjoyed the Mushroom Linguine. The blend of cheese, pesto, mushrooms, and pasta was absolutely delicious. I opted for the Fish and Chips; while the flavour was fantastic and the tartar sauce complemented it well, a crispier tempura-beer batter could elevate the flavour and texture. The chips were also amazing.
The pricing was particularly impressive, especially considering Dublin's typically high dining costs. A two-course meal accompanied by two drinks totalled €77, which we found to be excellent value. Our server, Brian, was exceptionally friendly, chatty and attentive, enhancing our dining experience. We both really liked Brian as he made us feel welcome from the moment we walked through the door to the moment we left.
While parking directly at the pub is limited, we found convenient free parking in the residential area behind the pub/restaurant, which was easy to access despite our cross-city journey.
Overall, our visit to The Black Forge Inn exceeded expectations, offering high-quality food, attentive service, and remarkable value. I highly recommend this pub as a must-visit for anyone...
Read moreSo- I’m not too sure where to start. Literally blown away by the whole place- forget that this is owned by my pal Conor. This place literally will stand toe to toe with any food place I’ve ever been too.
It has an atmosphere like nothing I have experienced before, the positivity, the smiles from the staff, it just has a buzz soon as you walk through them doors like something I’ve never felt before.
I’m a real foodie, I’ve eaten in Michelin star restaurants before, and I can’t believe for a public house- the quality of the food coming out of the kitchen is second to none- let alone it looks like a piece of artwork on each plate.
I was accommodated so well, although it was really busy, I was made to feel like one of the family, not just by Conor, but also by the whole staff there.
I commend Conor for the team he has built, in fact allow me to rephrase that- the family he has built- it holds an aura in the place genuinely i have not seen or felt before.
I feel that within time- and not much time at that- Michelin stars will be coming to this place that for sure. Ed in the kitchen ensures each plate hits the mark before being served.
I had the chicken burger which was ridiculously good- the chips were insane along with the spicy tomato sauce, even though I’m not normally a chip kinda guy.
I know this won’t be the last time I’ll be coming to the black forge inn, in fact the minute I stepped off the plane in the UK- I immediately wanted to fly back and try more on the menu.
So then… until we meet again, I can’t wait for chapter 2
Much love to you all, and Conor- proud...
