Update: Previous review posted below. Current review is as follows. Very sadly, I have had to bump this place down to 2 stars as it has gone considerably downhill. I've lost count of how many times I've had to send my steak back due to it being overcooked. There have been dirty straws with either lipstick or sticky pink gunk from unwashed fingers on them. A Mexican wrap which was listed as "warm" on the menu was served cold. On one occasion, a waitress came and offered us free desserts to make up for the steak being wrong again. Fine, ok, we accepted that. But my mum's alleged apple crumble had no crumble on it. It was just apple mush in a little skillet, dusted with icing sugar. Because it was free she decided not to complain as it would seem very rude, so she ate it. And then the cashier tried to charge us for the desserts anyway, desserts which we would never have ordered if they had not been offered to us complimentary as an apology. We used to come here once every 2-3 weeks if not more often. Now I've gone off it entirely and feel very uncomfortable about the idea of returning. Which is a genuine pity because I used to love the steak. I no longer recommend this place. Please sort out your service, your menus and your kitchen staff, who should be able to cook basic things like medium rare steak and apple crumble with their eyes closed. Devastated to lose this place, as there are so few decent places in Swords anymore and now none at all worth a damn in the Pavilions. Previous 4 star review: I like this place a lot and always order the ribeye. Usually superb steak but twice (edit: now 3 times) it has come back overcooked. "Medium rare" means pink all the way through but not bleeding. It does not mean brown with a hint of pink, which really does spoil the flavour compared to how it is when actually done medium rare at this restaurant. But I suspect this has to do with the particular server who attended to me on both days this mishap occurred as she insisted on repeating my order as "medium to rare" which indicates a steak cooked more than what I was actually ordering. Better training for front of house staff and, being honest, prices being a little bit more reasonable, would earn Ruby's the 5th star. Nonetheless, I have brought friends and family here several times as it is...
Read moreI am a long time customer of Ruby’s Swords and have always enjoyed the friendly service, good food and cocktails, until my recent visit on Christmas Eve.
I originally booked a table for 6pm on Christmas Eve and someone reached out to me asking if I could come in earlier at 5:45 so my booking was 5:45 -7:15. I said that was no problem and I arrived at 5:45 on Christmas Eve.
When I checked in the first thing the hostess said was we need you gone from the table by 7 and your food order has to be in by 6pm. Immediately we felt unwelcome and under pressure. However we quickly placed our food and drinks orders before 6pm.
Our original waiter took our main and starters and said they had to come out together because the kitchen was closing at 6. After already being told upon entry we needed to be out by 7 this further made me and my family feel unwelcome and under pressure. At 6:28 we asked the very unfriendly drink waitress if we could get a second round of drinks and were met with such a bad attitude and a line that said something like “ well ye have to order it right now and we won’t be taking any more orders cos we’re closing”. I’ve also been served by this person before on a previous visit and she was also not very friendly. We asked for our bill as soon as our drinks came and paid up and were out by 6:50.
We were looking forward to our meal and it was ruined. You should not have taken the booking if your staff was going to have such a bad attitude to customers. We would have happily come in earlier than 5:45 had you have told us that we’d be under time pressure.
It’s very disappointing that one of my favourite spots in swords that i encouraged friends and family to try all the time (and they did try and have become consistent customers too) is now one of my least favourite due to that experience.
I understand it’s Christmas Eve and people want to get home to their families, but we made a booking, arrived on time and were treated with...
Read moreI have frequented this establishment many times over the years. I have had quite a few first and last dates here, I am a strong believer in taking a first to a place where you are going to enjoy what you do even if the person turns out to be a catfish or a chatless/phone glued companion.
You can be sure to enjoy a nice meal here if any of the above or worse, a no show, comes in to fruition.
Staff are very welcoming, I was here only the other week with my partner for a celebration and we lost a Pokémon card that was worth quite a few euros.
Only realising after we got home I had to make the fatal call to reception and request he ask the staff if any of them found the valuable asset.
“Has anyone found a Pokémon card?” Was announced out over dining hall to the closing staff. He told us to call back the following day in case it turned up.
To no avail. We had accepted defeat, until the following day when it appeared in the bottom of a handbag. I’m sure the search party will be happy to know.
One thing I always thought this place could have done with was some entertainment, comedian show or live music or something. The back seating area would make a great stage.
Take them on the first...
