Dingle is a tourist town. Tourist towns are not always ideal for great food I find. Lots of people passing through and many visit a place once and maybe never get back again. This doesn't build a level of quality or excellence that is needed to retain customers in a non tourist area. Basically if customers are not happy it doesn't matter as there is a whole new batch of people tomorrow and more the next day. Building a local trade via reputation is not as high on the agenda as it could be. This is a general statement and there are exemptions. At this establishment the staff were nice and well clad with ppe gear. Every second table was cordoned off and we felt comfortable. The pub 2 doors down gave the opposite effect. As we walked past ,there were people in the 25 to 30yr age bracket falling around drunk and way to close to passers by, at their outside smoking area on the footpath. Harrington's however , was clean and tidy and properly laid out. I am not a fan of fish and chips generally, but have it very rarely due to disappointing results. Here the fish was ok. A bit overdone. They batter was fine and not retaining too much oil but the fish not as juicy as it should be. The tartare sauce was in a squeezy bottle and I don't like it almost pureèd. The classical ingredients of chopped capers, gherkins, boiled egg, parsley etc is nicer coarsely chopped and a better texture with deep fried fish in my opinion. The fish was ok and still very edible but the chips were a very poor quality. They looked fine but tasted mediocre and not like fresh high quality chopped potatoes which one would expect at a place like this. We spent approx €80 on a 3 fish and chips 2 kiddies meals and drinks and it was not worth it. For sit down take away food the experience was overpriced. Sorry guys. I know you can...

Read moreWe have been coming to dingle nearly every year for 20+ years and have eaten a fair few portions of fish n chips over that time. We ate in house and I can confirm that the food was delicious! The haddock was as fresh as can be and the batter was light n cripsy. The scampi was excellent and the chips were great! The family all enjoyed their food.
However the portion size was much smaller than I had experienced before. So much so we were left wanting more. We spent €70 for a family of 5 (1 young teen n 2 kids) which is nothing to be sniffed at. The vinegar was aldi bought n the sauces were cheap packet sauces, obviously a cost saving initiative which annoyed me considering we paid a premium price for our meal. A 30% reduction or increase, whatever way you look at it, seems to be the standard loss to the consumer in ireland at the moment and we felt it today. My advice is to throw in a an extra spud or two to offset this feeling of...
