Would be a regular visitor to bodega and always thought of it as a special occasion style restaurant.
Went back today to celebrate an anniversary and from the moment we walked in, it was completely off. We were left waiting at the front in what looked like an empty restaurant. Wasn’t asked for our names and brought to a table. I specifically mentioned in the booking it was an anniversary but there was no mention of this throughout the experience.
Food, which I might add has always been amazing was unfortunately extremely poor.
Patatas bravas were an extra €6 and was once a full bowl of potato’s with chorizo and cheese etc however now they are plain? And only maybe 10 or 11 small cubes of potatoes.
The rest of the food came out luke warm and some extremely greasy. The tenders came out with barely any sauce and felt like they’ve been sitting under a hot lamp for a while.
The manager mentioned the menu was new and if I’m extremely honest, a step down. I must mention the manager himself was and always has been a pleasure to dine with, however he worked alone. No other staff. This might have a knock on affect with the dining experience and something they should really look at as there was already 6 tables of 2-4 people each.
Hope someone from bodega reads this and can implement some changes to avoid another business suffering in clonmel, as I’ve always said this is or was a great...
Read moreI have heard a lot about this place. People rave about it. Spend a few good months of the year in Clonmel when I am not in the States. Finally tried it this evening. As it was overall good but to be honest, I was not overly impressed. I picked a tapas place because I did not have a big appetite but knowing I would still get quality. The portions were massive. In all fairness, I was warned about the size of the burgers but nothing about the seafood dish (which was good, but that alone could have sufficed - it was the only dish I truly enjoyed). When the bill arrived, there was an additional 4-euro upcharge on the seafood dish that was not disclosed for the three items tapas. This was not disclosed - on the menu the price for the tree tapas dishes was clear without exception. I expected to pay good money, but I believe transparency is owed to the customer. Food quality: the seafood dish was delicious. The burgers were rather basic and unremarkable for fine dining. The salmon and beets dish was like sushi and nothing overly exciting. Not expecting raw salmon. The wifi was down as well. I needed to get on there to finish up some work on my phone since I was dining alone.
Ambience was nice with live music. I don't regret the visit. Perhaps it was just not quite what I expected. Probably will return some date down the road in the...
Read moreWe recently booked out the whole of Bodega for a significant birthday party. We had the whole restaraunt to ourselves and organised with Paul and Bogdan to have a band come in to play after dinner. The night was a roaring sucess - the staff in Bodega are top notch and the food was very good. There were a few coeliacs and vegetarians, and one vegan in the party - they were all looked after really well and there was a wide choice of suitable menu items avaialble for them. Some of the dishes were so good that several peope said they would be vegetarian or coeliac the next time they dine there! The service was really excellent, and there are a wide range of cocktails available, and if you ask nicely, you might hear about the selection of top notch wines hidden away in the cellar! The Gatsby Cocktail bar is a spectacular venue for a cosy chat or a gathering of friends and it has a real New York Speakeasy feel to it. Whether it's you on your own, for a glass of wine and a few tapas, a romantic night out for two, a gang of you out for dinner, or you and 80 or so of your nearest and dearest for a spectacular night of cocktails, food and after dinner dancing, after a few tables were cleared away, I'd highy reccomend checking out Bodega 1830. A great addition to the dining...
