Dear Cove Bar Team,
I am writing to express my disappointment with our recent experience at your establishment. We had high expectations for our visit, but unfortunately, the service and overall experience fell short from beginning to end.
Initially, when we tried to make a booking by phone, we couldn’t reach anyone despite several attempts. Understanding it may be a busy spot, we decided to go in person. However, to our surprise, the bar and restaurant were quiet, yet the staff member handling bookings was nowhere to be found. When we finally located them, they were sitting at the bar with a customer deep in conversation. Our booking was taken, but it certainly didn’t inspire confidence.
On the day of our reservation, we noticed other patrons were also dissatisfied. The couple next to us left after waiting over an hour for their food, and a young family nearby also voiced complaints after a similarly long wait.
When we ordered drinks, one glass arrived with lipstick on the rim—an oversight that certainly affected our experience. After waiting 30 minutes to place our food order (due to the kitchen being temporarily closed), we weren’t checked on or offered additional drinks. Once our food did arrive, there was no cutlery provided, and at the end of our meal, we weren’t asked if we would like dessert.
On a positive note, the food itself was nice however the entire experience was disorganised, and I felt it necessary to bring this to your attention. I hope these concerns can be addressed to improve the experience for future...
Read moreLast year I moved close enough to The Cove to consider it my new Local. I visited it just enough before lockdown to know it was a really decent pub. What they have done since reopening after lockdown however is admirable. The process they have put in place is quick, comfortable and above all safe. The atmosphere is as close to a "Pre-Covid" pub as I have seen. I have had dinner and drinks in a few pubs since lockdown, in Waterford and in other parts of the country (Dublin mainly) and I can honestly say, all of the pubs I have visited should visit the The Cove and bring a notebook. The staff are exceptionally friendly, professional and understanding (They are also wary of thirst). The food has always been top notch and has only gotten better. I love going to the pub on the weekend, and in general its something I have missed dearly. The Cove has made me feel like I have somewhere to go. The management should pat themselves on the back and then do the same for their team. On top of all that the Guinness (since lockdown) is the best in the city....
Read moreHad a meal here this evening, four adults and one child. Four main courses of which three were steaks, one a stir fry and bangers and mash for the child with complimentary ice cream for the child as well. Adults had two desserts, and three pints of beer all in for 123 euro. Fantastic value, fantastic food. The steaks were advertised as 10 oz. but they were more like 15 oz. at least and all cooked to perfection. I can't recommend this place enough. Try it if you're in the vicinity, you won't be disappointed. Five stars...
