Long Sang — Restaurant in Tel-Aviv

Unfortunately- one of the worst dining experience we had in the last few years. I’ve heard a lot (mainly good things) about this restaurant (considered by connoisseurs as an authentic "establishment" for the Chinese cuisine in Tel-Aviv for a few decades now). We arrived on a Friday evening my wife, two daughters and myself, celebrating the birthday of our eldest . I’ve read quite a lot about the menus and we had an idea on what to order. The place is quite small and unfortunately, at the time we arrived, there was a very loud Chinese group (usually - a good thing in a Chinese restaurant), of which some of the members were very drunk. We could not really carry a conversation as the noise coming from that specific table was overpowering. At some point the owner came to our table and mumbled some excuse, but didn't do more than that. We ordered a hot and sour soup, fried won-tons , Pekin duck, lemon chicken and meatballs in dark sauce, accompanied by steamed and fried rice. Most of the dishes are (very) overpriced. Two soups arrived - the hot and sour and a won-ton soup. I kindly explained to the waiter that we wanted fried won-tons and not the won-ton soup. Non of the staff speaks Hebrew or more than broken English (which, again, could only contribute to the "authenticity" of the place and such misunderstandings can happen) . The owner came to the table and in a very aggressive tone ( she appeared to be very mad at us...) claimed that this is what we ordered. My wife agreed to take the won-ton soup for herself and we asked again for the fried won-tons . The only good thing I can think of about this evening is that the dishes came out very quickly. The hot and sour soup was plain, nothing really to tell about it. Same with the won ton soup. The fried won ton filling was bland and arrived with a sweet and sour sauce that came from a bottle . The "Pekin duck" meat was very (and I mean - VERY) dry. Actually - I was the only one at the table who could eat it. The meat balls were funky tasting. As they are supposed to be a blend of pork meat and shrimp - I suppose the after taste was because frozen shrimps were used. The lemon chicken was no more than ok and probably the best (and simplest) dish of the evening. Because of the loud, drunken group sitting a table away from us, we spent not more than 40 minutes from beginning to end. Although the owner felt our frustration ( as I mentioned- she did at one point make an excuse for the inconvenience caused by our neighbors) she did not offer to not charge for the unwanted soup, or to compensate us for the unpleasurable experience, not even with a 5 shekels pot of tea. I felt bad (and still do) because it was I who recommended to my family to go there and my daughter's birthday / family dinner was ruined. Not the owner's fault to have uneducated guests while we were there (although - no attempt to "calm them down" was made), but the poor quality of the food, the attitude and pricing have no excuse. Know the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld? It's kinda the same. It feels like a family run restaurant mainly aimed towards Chinese workers and the occasional tourist. No big sign denoting the place's name in sight, and the menu's printed on simple A4's placed in a school-type black binder.

Be cautious as the manager\owner(?) will always try to push the "westernized" red menu to non-Chinese customers, which contains just standard fluorescent sweet food. Insist on the black menu, and just gamble on what to get. It's hard to get a sense of what each dish contains as the English translations of the dishes' names are as simplistic as "pork with sauce", "chicken with cashews". You won't get any help either in choosing them since the waiter seems always in a hurry, and is determined that westerners can't handle spicy food, so she will actually try to sway you from the authentic Chinese dishes.

Overall the food is tasty, not everything is amazing, and you probably won't be able to taste flavors like that anywhere else in Israel. I would guess that if you can get a Chinese speaking person to come with you, your experience will be ever...

התנצלות מראש: זה הולך להיות ארוך. אבל חשוב שתגיעו לסוף.

אני יודע שקורונה כעת. אני יודע כמה ענף המסעדנות בצרה וקשיים. אני יודע כמה הכי כיף לי לפרגן ולאכול בחוץ. אני אוכל הרבה בחוץ, במשך שנים רבות,  ובקורונה אני מאד משתדל לפרגן לענף המסעדות. בדרך כלל אם יש לי משהו רע להגיד בתקופה הזו - אני מעדיף לשתוק על מנת שלא לפגוע בפרנסה של מסעדה. אבל הפעם זה היה קשה מדי. חמור מידי. מעליב ונוראי. משהו שחייבים להזהיר מפניו:

אכלתי בלונג סנג בצהריים ביום 3.9.20. עברו 12 יום מאז..... חשבתי שאולי אתאפק כמה ימים, אולי הטראומה תעבור ונדפדף הלאה את החוויה בשתיקה. היום 15.9.20 וזה באמת לא עובר. אז ככה: היינו שניים. בא לנו על טעם סיני אותנטי. נכנסנו, המסעדה היתה ריקה. אין לחץ. מלצרית אסייתית מבוגרת, משועממת ולא נחמדה ניגשת. הזמנו עסקית לזוג. מרק תירס + מרק נטיפי ביצים לראשונות. אין איך להגיד את זה אחרת..., אז נגיד את זה בדיוק כמו שזה היה: מרק התירס היה פשוט מקולקל: חמוץ לגמרי בטעמים ובלתי אכיל בעליל. מרק נטיפי הביצים הגיע על בסיס ציר בלתי ראוי למאכל אדם: עכור וטפל לגמרי עם ריח עוף מכובס ודוחה. ביקשנו להחליף והסברנו בעדינות מדוע..... נתקלנו בתגובה גועלית מאין כמוה של אותה מלצרית אבל בכל זאת עשתה טובה והחליפה.

המרקים האחרים שקיבלנו - פטריות וירקות + וון טון נעשו כנראה על בסיס אותו ציר ולכן גם הם לא היו אכילים. שמנו בצד ולא נגענו יותר. הגיע האגרול. אכיל בקושי וגם כאן : הנבטים לקו בחמצמצות שעל סף ריקבון. ביס אחד ושמנו בצד.

העיקריות היו עוף ופורק (חזיר). נתחי העוף הדיפו ריח שאי אפשר לטעות בו: מי שמכיר יודע: רק עוף מקוקל יכול להריח ככה. בלתי אכיל בעליל וגם מסוכן.

הפורק סבל מאותה תופעה. רק שהפעם מצד הרוטב שהיה נוראי והרס כל סיכוי למנה הזאת. למען בריאותנו - החלטנו להפסיק כאן ועכשיו והזמנו מיידית חשבון. המלצרית ראתה שלא נגענו בכלום ואפילו לא שאלה מדוע ואם משהו לא בסדר...... רק הסתכלה עלינו בבוז מעורב בשעמום.

שילמנו והסתלקנו ללא שוב. למען שלום קיבתנו כאמור. למען בריאות הציבור והקוראים המעוניינים- נראה לי הפעם שאינטרס הציבור לדעת ולהיזהר - גובר על הרחמים, הסליחה והרצון לפרגן למסעדות ואולי לסלוח ולשכוח להן על פאשלה כזו או אחרת. רבותי - המקום לא סתם גרוע: הוא מסוכן !!!!!!!!

בכל הכבוד: אם מסעדה או מקום אוכל כלשהו נמצא בבעיות ומנסה לשרוד, לחסוך ולא לזרוק חומרי גלם - כאן בדיוק עובר ואפילו נחצה הקו האדום: אל תגישו לאורחים (שבאו לפרגן לכם ולשלם עבור זה) אוכל מקולקל ובלתי אכיל....לפחות תכבדו אותם ואל תגישו מה שצריך לזרוק!!!. כאן זה לא קרה. למרבה הצער - זה היה זילזול בלתי נסלח. עם שירות נוראי וגועלי וחוויה שממש ישבה לי על המצפון ולא עברה לי עד שהוצאתי אותה על הכתב. אז למי שבכל זאת זוכר למקום הזה את חסד נעוריו ומתכנן ללכת ולאכול שם: יכול להיות שנפלתי על יום נוראי במיוחד, אבל קשה לי להאמין שזה כך, כי זו הייתה נפילה רוחבית על כל המנות ללא יוצא מן הכלל. לכן ולסיכום: ממליץ להיזהר ולהזמין בהתחלה רק מנה אחת ראשונה קטנה. אם זה יהיה דומה למה שתיארתי כאן : אל תמשיכו ולכו מיד...כי ההמשך יהיה יותר גרוע. אם זה אחרת - אז מצוין. כנראה שתיקנו את הליקוי הנורא. אני יודע שמדובר ב"מוסד" תל אביבי ותיק ואהוב....ולכן כגודל הציפיה - כך גודל האכזבה. הלוואי שאני טועה והלוואי שמדובר בליקוי מאורות נוראי מקומי וחד פעמי שאולי כבר תוקן.... קשה לי להאמין. לצערי אני אישית - לא דורך שם יותר. הטראומה שלי היתה גדולה וחמורה מידי מכדי לחזור לשם אי פעם. אני כן מקווה שאם הם רוצים להמשיך שם בלונג סנג לשרוד - אז שיעשו בדק בית כולל ורציני ביותר, החל מרמת האוכל, הבישול וחומרי הגלם וכלה ברמת השירות.
