Minzar is the great Tel Aviv nightlife survivor. It has weathered greedy developers, restrictive licencing laws, a global pandemic, and nearby terrorist attacks, and is still going strong. Great beers (some just about affordable by Tel Aviv standards) served in proper glasses, super late opening hours, and a much improved food menu. It has been around since the early '90s which is why I choose to stick by it on visits to Israel, despite the absolute ghoul currently working the bar. Growing up in Israel, you have a fairly thick skin when it comes to customer service and what to expect, but the jaw-dropping levels of unapologetic awfulness flaunted by this guy - from slamming drinks in front of you to not even being arsed to tell you the price of something when all you're doing is trying to pay, answering in English when you address him in Hebrew (fluent Hebrew speaker to be clear, as am I), and mocking a customer who'd stormed out after being offended by his attitude - and these are just select highlights of an exhaustive list - would shock even the most feral of locals.
