Osteria Anno Mille — Restaurant in Ascoli Piceno

Great Food and Ambience, but Service Needs Improvement

I had the pleasure of dining at Osteria Anno Mille in Ascoli Piceno on August 14th, 2023, for dinner. It was my first time in the city, and my experience at the restaurant was a mix of highs and lows.

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the quality of the food. We indulged in two delicious pinse, a delectable mixed fried dish, and two outstanding Gricia. The white wine and Prosecco we enjoyed during the aperitivo were also of excellent quality. The prices were reasonable considering the delectable spread we devoured.

However, the service left much to be desired. The waitstaff appeared somewhat disoriented, and there was an unfortunate incident where we were served a tagliata that we hadn't ordered. Despite the mix-up, we ended up enjoying the dish and apologize for any misunderstanding. My husband, always one to take advantage of such situations, played along. The restaurant's manager seemed flustered and unsure of how to handle the situation.

The restaurant itself exuded a wonderful ambiance, and if not for the service, I would easily give it a five-star rating. The only downside of the experience was the service, which prevented it from being a perfect dining experience. Nevertheless, I would still recommend Osteria Anno Mille, if not for anything else but the charming atmosphere...

We found this elegant and cozy restaurant without checking reviews or doing any online research, just simply strolling around the Centro Storico and ending up on the startlingly beautiful Piazza Arringo, where a gentile uomo invited us to come in. It was a good decision. We had two primi, lasagna al forno marchigiana and spaghetti alla carbonara. The lasagna was splendid, with very delicate handmade sfolle and a typical ragù of the region. The carbonara was also delicious with the pasta perfectly al dente. The chef surprised us with some typical biscotti he had just baked when I commented on the wonderful smell emanating from the kitchen near where we were seated. The service was excellent, the staff helpful and friendly, and the environment refined and elegant without being pretentious. Siamo stati qui domenica 2 gennaio in un gruppo di 7 alle 18,15. Ci hanno detto che c'era posto dentro ma che alle 19 ci saremmo dovuti alzare perche loro dovevano apparecchiare per la cena. Abbiamo detto che andava bene purché il servizio fosse stato veloce. Alla fine dopo 3/4 minuti siamo riusciti a sederci. Era già tutto apparecchiato per la cena. Non avevano il barman. Una mia amica ha dovuto chiedere 3 cose(un Cocktails, uno spritz viola e un altro drink di cui non ricordo il nome) prima di capire di doversi accontentare di un Campari e prosecco. Noi altri abbiamo preso 2 aperol spritz, 3 calici di vino e un Campari spritz. Alle 18 e 35 ci ritroviamo ad aver ordinato, col tavolo mezzo apparecchiato per la cena e mezzo no, perché la cameriera ha iniziato a sparecchiare il tavolo ma poi, ad un certo punto, ha smesso. Si siedono 2 tavoli da 2 e da 4 dopo di noi. Ad entrambi arrivano i cocktail e gli stuzzichini prima di noi. Verso le 19 meno qualche minuti arrivano anche i nostri cocktail. Beviamo tranquilli. Un mio amico si alza a chiedere se fossero previsti anche per noi gli stuzzichini. In contemporanea al suo ritorno arriva un piattino con qualche stuzzichino. Tutto bene se non fosse che il piattino era lo stesso(di dimensioni) portato agli altri 2 tavoli(uno da 2 persone e uno da 4).ci accontentiamo. Chiediamo però alla cameriera se ci fosse qualcosa che la mia amica affetta da celiachia potesse mangiare(abbiamo chiesto delle patatine in busta in mancanza di altro). Nulla. Abbiamo rinunciato quando la cameriera le ha proposto del fritto, tipo le verdure. Pensavo che nel corso haccp fosse spiegato in breve cosa fossero gli allergeni e le contaminazioni. Ma vabbè. Alla fine, mentre stavamo per alzarci, con gli aperitivi già finiti da un po', ci hanno portato un altro vassoietto di stuzzichini(tipo pane e pizzette). In tutto ciò non avevamo nemmeno un tovagliolino e Ci siamo dovuti finire a sparecchiare da soli. Riconosco che il locale era molto pieno e i camerieri fossero trottole impazzite, quindi il servizio ne ha risentito sicuramente. Ultimo dettaglio: le norme sulle distanze dei tavoli non erano minimamente rispettate,come si vede dalla foto. Eravamo appiccicati agli altri commensali sia a sinistra del nostro tavolo che davanti. Le sedie toccavano i tavolini o le sedie degli altri tavoli. Lasciando da parte il covid, penso che non siano proprio distanza adeguate per una questione...
