We chanced upon Osteria Al Borgo d’Oro, situated slightly on the the outskirts of ‘lower’ Bergamo, for a Sunday lunch after a weekend of gastronomic delight in this lovely city. What an unexpected and wonderful delight! As we walked through the interior dining room, we could see that this is a high quality establishment (glassware, table settings, etc.). We arrived in a beautiful secret garden at the back where we could spend a few beautiful hours dining al fresco. Everything was perfect. The menu has sufficient choice for every palate. We chose to share starters - the best stuffed and deep fried zucchini flowers I have ever tasted, anchovies served in two ways, and a delicious raw artichoke and parmesan salad. Each of us only had one main - some chose (delicious) pasta, others sirloin or steak tartare served in a marrow bone. Each dish was beautifully executed and very tasty. The desserts were equally top notch (my panna cotta with salted meringue and olive oil was out of this world). The wine list, obviously also compiled with love, offers a wide choice of some of the top Italian names, but also some lesser known gems. The service was exemplary in every possible way. Thank you Alice and your team. Highly highly recommended. Not...

Read moreI had such high hopes from reading reviews.... However, from the moment we arrived we felt rushed and treated like a second rate customer. We were asked to decide on food and come back to ordering drinks after. The main course was served minutes after the starter and it felt rushed and not at all relaxed and the usual Italian experience of slow food and enjoyment. There was a slight misunderstanding on a drinks order and we were made to feel like it was our fault. Perhaps we got the waiter on a bad night, who knows? The other waiters serving other tables seemed much better. For the cost I expected so much more but I was left...
