Our last and hottest day in Bologna needed something good to end on, and wow, did we find a gem. We were walking past and had seen the menu but the restaurant was closed, about to walk off, another couple arrived and told us how good it was, and that it was just about to open. We sat outside in the balmy air, and our waiter was fantastic, little English but we managed to use our little italian and get through. The wine ordered was sublime, local sauvignon, and an appetizer of herb/breadcrumbed tomato was presented with fresh bread to help us order. Our first dishes were a smoked meat croutons and a fillet carpaccio. The crouton was sublime, and the carpaccio full of flavour, the mango atop and lemon juice just made it perfect. There was no rushing during the meal, the waiter was attentive but not obtrusive. We had a good chinwag with a Kiwi couple who have escaped Winter for 6 weeks in Europe. The main course arrived, not one but two Pork shanks served with crispy potatoes and a lovely bean and veg accompaniment cooked with mango. The other dish was a veal cutlet topped with ham and cheese, served with a creamy mash. Both dishes were superb, and left no room for dessert! The meal was fantastic, local cuisine, created fresh and superbly in the kitchen. It is less than 10 minutes from the station and well worth seeking out for a...
Read moreExcellent meal at an out-of-the-way hostaria. We ended up sitting outside as it was a warm night, and sitting inside, even downstairs, might have been a little uncomfortable. With our reservation made via Google/Fork, our table was ready for us when we arrived a few minutes early.
We started with the Piatto di salumi, Tigelle, and a bottle of Bacche Nere. We dug into that bit of deliciousness (the lard melted into the Tigelle perfectly.
For our main meal, I have the special tortelloni filled with pumpkin and my wife had the tortellini in brodo. All were very delicious and expertly prepared. The meal was finished with a wonderful bit of dolci - creme di mascarpone conscaglie di ciocccolato. The mascarpone was perfectly creamed and the cioccolato was just bitter enough to offset the sweetness of the mascarpone.
If you are in Bologna, you own it to yourself to get to have a meal here. ...
Read moreWent for dinner twice during my first stay in Bologna. Food was absolutely amazing from the appetizer bread until the sweets. First night I have Tagliatelle al ragù which was perfectly cooked with finely minced meat that clings to the bouncy pasta noodle. I also have panna cotta which was great. I knew I need to come back to try more of their food. For the second night I came back and have green Balanzoni dumpling which was also delicious. I also had rosemary steak and the steak was perfectly cooked with such a salivating rosemary aroma.
Staff was nice and have good service mind.
Menu is available as online and the wifi was not working at the time of my second night.. but that is totally fine for me (as I think everything would be perfect choice)
You need to come a bit early to get a table as it is popular among locals as well. Booking ahead...
