Panificio Sponghi — Restaurant in Bologna

We have been spending time in Bologna over the last two years. The first place we always go to upon arrival is Panificio Sponghi because we love it. They have a great selection of breads. They also have so many delicious cookies and assorted pastries. It is difficult to choose because everything is so delicious. They have savory items galore. On top of all that, I can’t say enough about the staff. They are so kind and friendly and welcoming. They are patient with our attempts at using the Italian language, helping us learn and understand better. Perfetto!! This bakery is the best in Bologna and one of the best in my travels throughout Europe. I came to the bakery for the first time before Covid and when I returned to Bologna to visit recently I visited your shop. I was pleasantly surprised to see the same wonderful staff to greet me and all of the wonderful products. The products of the bakery are superb. They are both traditional and experimental. It is simply a fun experience. I recommend that you visit the shop when you are in Bologna. I will be visiting several more times before I return to my home where there are good bakeries but nothing that can compare to this wonderful...

My girlfriend and I love this bakery. After two weeks travelling across Italy this was the best baked goods we had! We ate there once or twice a day nearly every day we stayed in Bologna. We tried almost everything from the bread, the biscuits to the pizza and cakes! A favourite of ours is the apple cake, it was delicious. The staff are super friendly and made an effort to speak to us in English where our Italian failed us. The prices are very good considering the high quality of the products.
