Trattoria Trebbi — Restaurant in Bologna

This place was recommended to us by our Italian host, as somewhere they went to regularly. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and we got there 7.30 without a reservation - they fitted us in if we could sit outside . No problem! Got a bag of bread and some sparkling water from the waitress who was proper smiles and lovely. Bread didn't rate highly, but who cares - the star of the show was the lasagne and the ragu tagliatelle. The meals came out in a good time but the lasagne was replaced with a ragu rigatoni for some reason. Totally should have just had that too to be honest - it looked delicious. But they went back to kitchen and must have got the lasagne out the fridge and quickly heated it up in oven - when it arrived to table, it was hot on the outside (and crispy - nice), but just slightly warm in the centre. Look, not going to complain as it was delicious regardless - and this wasn't a problem for me. I ate all of it, and my missis had a few shared forks of mine too and agreed it was well nice. Her tagliatelle was piping hot and again, I'd have no problem in eating hers as well as mine - everything was delicious. Now, onto dessert - don't question this, and just get the bowl of mascarpone and chocolate shavings. Get one bowl and two spoons. Trust me on this. How something so simple can be bonkers yums and filling for 2 people - its an Italian food science secret I'm certain. Had a bottle of beer and small 2-glass wine serve and all up was around €40, so a pretty decent meal and a decent price. If you want to go later than 7.30 then deffo book ahead I'd say - by the time we left, it was getting busy as.

We arrived around 2:30 pm, close to their 3 pm closing time, yet the staff welcomed us warmly and never made us feel rushed. They were patient, attentive, and genuinely kind.

Places like this are why we come to Italy. Fresh and delicious food. Young staff working their way thru school and doing their very best at serving, helping us choose, making us comfortable and practicing a second language. Family run joint with friends and neighbors of all ages hanging around enjoying the evening. Community not touristy. We went with the traditional dishes from bologna and they were awesome, tagliatelle ragu, gramigna alla salsicia. Also some prusciutto with the sweetest melon ever and a nice juicy beef filet of course cooked perfect and served with a big wedge of lemon and a tin bottle of unbelievable fresh evoo. 10 euro for 1 liter of very nice house red! All in all food and wine much better than what we were served the night before at a fancier place in the city center and for about 25% less euros.
