The Portici of Bologna are more than just covered walkways, they’re the city’s backbone. Stretching for over 60 kilometers, they shape the experience of Bologna like few other features can. Originally built in the Middle Ages to expand living space over the sidewalks, the porticoes became a defining architectural response to urban life and community. Over time, they evolved from simple wooden structures to the elegant brick and stone arcades seen today. Whether lined with shops, cafés, or centuries-old churches, each section has its own personality. Some are grand and ornate, others narrow and worn smooth by generations of footsteps, but all are unified in purpose. Walking beneath them, you’re sheltered from the weather and surrounded by history. It’s not just a beautiful way to move through the city, it’s a way to feel connected to its soul.

Most horrible hotel room I had to spend a night in for years. Room is just next to the restaurant having the impression you are actually in the restaurant, heating adds up to the incredible noise level in the room just to be topped by the noise coming in from the street the rooms facing. Smallest room I have ever stayed in an Italian hotel so far, bed size is not as required and confirmed by hotel upon reservation. There is actually not a single positive point I could think of. Maybe there are other rooms but I definitely will not return to figure this out. There are better hotels in Bologna and I need to find some relax after my stay at...
