There is just so much to try at Gintilla! The entrées, the pastas, the desserts, oh my!
Risotto - the risotto was texturally on point, saucy with the rice cooked to perfection. The flavours of tomato, aubergine and cheese were all there and it was one of my favourites I’ve had here. The portion was also huge, in the best way!
Tortellini with spirulina - as I was delighting in my risotto, my partner was having only a handful of tortellini, I want to say 5? While very delicious, this was an incredibly small portion and he was seriously considering getting a second pasta dish. It’s the only small dish we saw but it’s one of those where I would happily pay more to get an adequate portion because it was delicious (I only had a small bite so as not to steal his and I wish I could have had more to form a better opinion) and it obviously requires more time to form the shapes.
Strudel - delicious blend of apple and spices, and an effective plating too! It wasn’t a layered Austrian style one, more of a pipe that held the delicious filling. It worked very well with the chocolate sauce.
Tiramisu - this was the only dish that we found disappointing. The coffee flavour was mild, and the cake was dry. Some areas were even drier than others. This would have needed a lot more coffee seeped through for both taste and humidity. It was fine, but I couldn’t recommend it.
3 tomato tagliatelle - this pasta was an absolute delight. Fresh, juicy tomatoes that come alive on the plate, perfect ratio of pasta, sauce and tomatoes, would highly recommend. Naturally, al dente pasta cooked to perfection.
Carbonara - quite salty for my taste, but then again it is a salty dish for omnis too. It wasn’t my favourite because of this plus the fact that the guanciale in the original recipe was more of a shawarma here. They were strips rather than cubes so the texture had to suffer. It was tasty enough that it scratched the itch for carbonara, but not the best rendition I’ve had.
Cheese board - this felt very plentiful for a starter which was great! The size allowed to properly taste all the cheeses and accompaniments - the sundried tomato pate, the aubergine one and the mango chutney were all delicious, and the truffle, herb and spicy cheeses had a nice texture and flavour as advertised. I’d really recommend this one and I haven’t seen any other vegan cheese boards in Cagliari!
The staff was also very friendly and offered good service. I wish the accompanying bread was...
Read moreAs a long-time vegan myself I have to say I was a bit disappointed by this restaurant :( the food was decent but totally "average" in my opinion and way overpriced for the creativity/taste/small portions. The cheese appetizer was decent but there is not enough variety in the consistencies. The bread to accompany the cheese was also in my opinion not really tasty... the cheese creams were ok but not really special...they tastes more like the typical vegan "cashew sour cream". in general the board was a bit sad. The price was 11 euros which I find ok if it would get elevated a bit. The raw ravioli tasted decent but the taste combination was underwhelming for 9 euros and a small portion. The spirulina ravioli was a bit too hard in my opinion but pretty good but way too overpriced (14 euros for 5 pieces). The pistacchio pasta was really good and original and totally worth 13 euros(although portion was on the smaller side). The concept of the "salvia butter" sauce is good but there was not enough of it and it just didn't taste as amazing as i hoped. The tortino melanzane unfortunately tasted like something out of a cafeteria, a bit elevated with the cream but for 12 euros really disappointing... I would love to come back if the restaurant would improve but like this I really have to say that if as a vegan I have to criticize so much I can not imagine what somebody who is not a vegan would say about the food. I would love for people to try vegan food and to be impressed by the variety but I am afraid that at the moment most people wouldn't have that experience at Gintilla restaurant. I wish you all the best and hope you don't take this as an attack but as an...
Read moreWe went here, one vegetarian and myself, a modest carnivore, based on the high google reviews and a vegan message board recommendation. The starter on beetroot carpaccio was nice, refreshing, acidity right, good start. We also had the highly praised cheese platter, which was as many vegan cheese corse in texture and overly salty. Yak.
The mains were the carbonara pasta and the saitan escalopes with a side of potatoes. Carbonara was very salty but still edible, nice creaminess. Escalopes were rubbery and tasteless. Potatoes were the greatest disappointment. How can you f*ck them up? They are already vegan but were overly fabricated, lacking taste, and surprisingly lacking salt. The dip they came with was very blend too.
We skipped deserts.
Overall, I think it’s best to avoid this restaurant and have traditional vegan Italian food like pasta norma, filled courgette flowers, onion focaccia etc. in more regular places.
Unfortunately we definitely didn’t enjoy the meal and saw little joy at surrounding tables too, I don’t get the high...
