TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE, AVIOD THIS!! Starting with a very pushy waiter, even when asked for 2 minutes to decide, he kept pushing. We ordered even without checking the complete menu. The red wine they served us ice cold (I guess to cover the terrible taste), and they asked us to use plastic glasses, which we refused. After a while of talking and using google translate, we finally got real glasses. The wine was probably the worst wine we had in whole Italy. You could smell the alcohol even without tasting it. But that was just the beginning. The food arrived after just a few minutes, which was a bit surprising. We ordered the mixed meat plate. When the plate arrived, the fried meat was FULL WITH WORMS!! You could literally see the worms crawling out from the meat. Our appetite was gone. We sent the plate back and tried to eat 1 steak that looked eatable. Again, after only a few minutes, they came back with the same plate of mixed meat that we sent back trying to convince us that it is ok now. Of course, we sent it back as we couldn't even look at that plate without imaging the worms. Surprise, surprise, when we got the bill, the plate with worms was on it (as well as some other things we never even ordered). After complaining again, they removed the items we didn't eat and drink from the list. Left the...
Read moreWe came here as I really wanted to try horse meatballs for the first time.
This was the only place open, in the evening there's a lot more to choose from. I can only attest to the meatballs, but from what I saw other meat dishes looked very nice as well.
The locale itself looks basic, with indoor and outdoor seating. It was basically empty when we went there in mid-afternoon. We were promptly seated
The horse meatballs were delicious. Very interesting first experience in general. I ordered three and had trouble finishing them!
The wait staff were okay, not overly friendly but quick to come and take our order.
This is the place to get meat, however everything else i would avoid. We didn't even try the pasta but ordered mozarella and tomato's. It was expensive in comparison to the meat and the quality was not good. But that's okay as this is what we came for.
Overall, definitely recommend if you want to experience horsemeat but not...
Read moreSicily #6, Catania #6, Italian #2, Horse #1: my friend had read Catania was famous for horse meat and had found a few places to try. After we visited the castle nearby-ish, we decided to take a break here.
We ordered: 1L vino €6 x2, horse sausage €2, porchetta €2; (€2 coperto/cover pp).
Both the sausage and the porchetta were delicious. Not onyl did they taste great, but the pricing for food here is phenomenal. The vibe/service is also great. This definitely feels much more like a local haunt (there weren't any tourists here--besides us).
It was a great place to take a break, have some drinks, and eat some meat. I wanted to come back here, but I couldn't convince the rest of my group to eat horse again 😅 This would be one of the first places I'll return to next time I'm...
