Locanda del Marinaio — Restaurant in Cefalù

I chose this restaurant for my engagement dinner, as it was back at that time in current Michelin Guide. I had my best in my life tuna rare cannolo in kataifi and worst in our lives service. I made a reservation in advance. When we arrived and waited to be seated, two local folks arrived and started talking Italian with the waiter, they looked like they were asking for table. We were totally ignored during this small talk, like we didn't exist. In the next minutes they finished the talk and were sitted in the table that was being prepared for us. We were excused being said that we actually didn't have reservation and there is a problem and if we want we can be sitted by the table in the lower class restaurant next door (being served food by the proper restaurant). Normally we would just leave, but this was a special day for us so we stayed. Good food and great service. But having are elsewhere in Cefalu I’d probably not go here again.

We sat in the on street terrace which was really lovely with a little atmosphere lent by the local bars. Great people watching opportunity.

It’s swordfish season so that was a must and it was nice. Fennel/mackerel salad (oddly bland but minty), delicate cod with olive crumb (lovely) and with an interesting creamy milk sauce on the side, side salad and baked potatoes (mid-way between roast potatoes and chunky skin on fries) - all tasty. The side salad was the best thing we had! Some of the flavour combinations made us stop a moment but it was a nice enough way to spend an evening.

The wine recommended to us (22€ for bottle, at the lower end of the scale) was fabulous … probably better...

IF YOU LOOKING FOR A MARVELOUS TIME, THAT IS NOT HERE! The worst service I have had in my life and in Amalfi. I ordered pasta with clams, they put something else that I cant define. The clamshelves were there, had a nice amount, but couldn’t find the clams themselves when started to eat (very little) . I couldn’t finish the plate! They put together nicely, but is not great when you start eating! I’ve asked for cheese for 2 of the staff. They simply pretended that were busy, one stayed on the phone and the other went to the back do whatever…. They look at you with a face like you’re begging for free food. Note.
