I don’t understand the phenomenon of this place. 4,8 rate is extremely high. Maybe I was expecting too much…but each and every comment is stating how this is the best Italian pasta and the service is super nice. Really, it is not. It is decent food nothing more and nothing less. Pasta was well cooked this is a fact. We ordered Carbonara and Speak-tacchio. Carbonara had a flat taste. The amount of bacon was minimal and each piece had gristles. This was not a guanciale ok, but it wasn’t a good pancetta either. I felt a taste of eggs but not the cheese. Speak-tacchio was better. Had a good pistachio sauce. Still the same bacon was used that was not the best quality. I think that it is what is the biggest problem in both pastas. Rest of the ingredients were difficult to be found. The service was at the same level as the pastas. We ordered, we paid, we were called to collet the order, asked if we want the cheese on top of the pasta, got the boxes and left. Could not remember anything that would make me come back. Quick fast food, no familial atmosphere that people are talking about. 130 g is probably for total of the dish with sauce and ingredients. And it is a good value for the money. I eat healthy and I always weigh carbohydrates in my dishes so I know how much 130 grams of pasta weighs (different types of pasta) and it was not that much.
And side note to the owner before he will try to explain that I don’t have a taste and 450 opinions says something else: this is not my first rodeo, my friend. I am familiar with Italian cuisine. I know that less is more and I agree that too much ingredients kill the dish. However the ingredients need to be of good quality. I was expecting a good deep flavour of nonna’s cuisine and got a completely...
Read moreI read reviews and take this into account when choosing a place for accommodation and food. For the most part, the image and tone match. We, the ordinary consumers are not that different: mainly looking for it not to be too expensive, for the portions to be sufficient and tasty. Here, in addition to numerous, with almost identical text, just by changing the order of the words, you learn about "the best Italian pasta", "wonderful people who serve you" and "excellent portions". In those few, few, with whom the boss argued, I experienced the same thing as them: first, it's far from the best Italian pasta. We ate 4 different types. I've traveled all over Italy, far from being the best and the content is modest, although I ordered a larger dose, which is constantly discussed in these post from the owner. It's kind of easy for me that people are convinced by the owner that they are wrong and that they misunderstood something. It's all a matter of taste. From now on, I'm carefully reading the worst comments everywhere, so that I'm prepared and not disappointed. An opinion is just an opinion, everyone has a taste special request without convincing that he did not understand something, like the few, dissatisfied ones. Apparently the bar doesn't really want to understand the content of these not exellent reviews. They said that the price is way too high for the small and not reach in ingrediants portion. The fact that you can order a larger portion has nothing...
Read moreReasons why you should eat here:
The pasta. There are a few places in NYC serving up authentic Sicilian pasta dishes and they’ll run you a cool $35-50 a plate. Here, they are using the same culinary technique and high quality ingredients- and you can take it to go and eat on the beach for much less.
The pasta again. It’s made fresh, not scooped from pre-prepared containers. Again, we’re talking the same methods high end restaurants are using.
It’s owner operated. Speaking of, the staff is great. One of the few places where they were patient enough to speak to me in Italian even though I’m still learning.
Finding pasta in the middle of the day is no easy feat in Italy, and in the afternoon, there’s riposo, when many places are closed. Here, you can have pasta at lunch, and on weekdays, right through dinner time.
The price. It’s fair, and that’s not typically the case in towns frequented by tourists. You will not pay a “tourist tax” to enjoy excellent al dente pasta with fresh...
