Husband and I worked into the restaurant on a Sunday night. We saw many open tables out on the balcony, and the place seemed really cute. One of the waiter told me a table for 2 should open up on about 20 minutes. We walked around the town for about 25 minutes and returned to the restaurant. We were not getting any attention from anyone including he waiter who told us a table should be ready in 20 minutes. After sitting on a bench for another 10 minutes, we walked up to a different waitress to ask about our table. At that point they started setting up one of the many tables that had been open since the first time we arrived at the restaurant.
We were positioned at a table tucked away in the corner of the balcony away from the view. At first I thought that all the empty tables by the area with a view were already taken by people who made previous reservation. However, after our 2 hour dinner, I realized that none of those open tables were ever again occupied by anyone else for the remainder of the night.
We had dinner at the back corner of the restaurant where it was dark. We asked the waitress what dish she recommends, but she refused to give us any. For the most part she seemed just annoyed. We ordered pasta dishes and they tasted as good as any other restaurants in Italy (all very good more or less). We constantly had to walk up to the server to get their attention for everything. When we were finished with the dinner, we were ignored for another 30 minutes after our finished plates had been taken away. I waited for the dessert menu for awhile and just finally decided to go up to a server to pay the bill.
I asked the waitress if they do not have a dessert menu. She condescendingly responded, “did you want dessert? Did you ask? If you want something you ask for it. If not then you don’t wan it”
I had heard previously that I would face racism in Italy. But this was the first time that I actually felt discriminated in a service...

The food at this castle restaurant is truly outstanding. Each dish is crafted with care, but the standout for us was the quail. It was a taste explosion in the mouth, with flavors so vivid and well-balanced that they left a lasting impression. The quality of the ingredients and the skill in the kitchen are evident in every bite, making the culinary experience here one to savor.
While the atmosphere and food were top-notch, the service had its hiccups. The waiters, though friendly, seemed a bit disorganized. There were moments of confusion, and it took a while to get everything we ordered. However, despite these minor setbacks, our meals did arrive, and they were well worth the wait.
In summary, dining at this restaurant in Certaldo Castle is an experience to be cherished. The picturesque setting, coupled with exceptional food, particularly the quail, makes it a must-visit. While the service could use a bit of polish, the overall experience is delightful and certainly...
Read moreThe location of the restaurant, though a bit hard to get to is very nice. The town is cute. The views are fantastic and setting is very cozy and romantic. We went for diner to celebrate a birthday. The food was delicious except for the bread which was flavorless and quite disgusting. Unfortunately the service was awful!! We were a large group of 11 people and the servers had no clue how to handle a large group. The food came out randomly with appetizers mixed up with main dishes and they had no idea who ordered what. Some of us ate 30 to 45 minutes after others in our group as the food was not ready for everyone. We were all a bit frustrated. When we tried to address it with the waiter, he ridiculed us saying it was our fault. We did make a reservation so they knew we were coming. This made what could have been a wonderful experience, a disapoining one. Service is one star, food 5 star and ambiance 4 star only because the chairs are uncomfortable and getting to our seats difficult because of how they...
