Trattoria Bère Vecchie — Restaurant in Cisternino

We recently visited the restaurant located in a sweet, cozy alleyway that had been recommended to us. The ambiance was very welcoming and homey. The waitstaff seemed to have a lot on their plates, likely due to the restaurant's popularity. For starters, we had Oriechette with a meat roulade which was very tasty. The main courses were mixed. We ordered Salsiccia, lamb from the oven and roasted vegetables.

Unfortunately, the lamb was a major letdown: the pieces were crudely cut, very fatty, included many bones and sinews, and had little actual meat. It was tasteless and truly inedible. It was disappointing to be served such a dish – we've had better meals elsewhere for similar prices. The restaurant has potential given its location and atmosphere, but the quality of the food, at least regarding our main course, was disappointing. The starter was enjoyable. Will not go again.

Went there last week with a friend because a friend from Cisternino suggested the place.

1 hour wait to be seated with reservation at 9.30pm with the waiter saying every 5 minutes "you'll be seated shortly".

When finally we ordered food, about 10 bombettes, two sausages, two steaks, 2 portions of potatoes and grilled vegetables, olives and bread. We had two beers for drinks and no wine. We ended up paying 70€. I was shocked. Being a local I have never paid this much for such small amount of food, which I have to say it was very decent.

The worst part was the service. Every waiter looked stressed and in rush and they didn't even remove the menus after ordering. A waiter even poured red wine on me from another table while cleaning.. but this can happen. To sum up, they were just not nice!

This restaurant came recommended to us however I have to say I am not sure why it is rated so highly. The waiters were pretty rude. It was very chaotic trying to get seated, we were standing around nobody told us where to go even though our name had been called. When we were finally seated a waiter come over barely said hello just asked us what our order was. No intro, no welcome to our restaurant, is this your first time here etc etc. Very rude. Also nobody came once to check on us for the duration of our meal. Only to drop off our dishes and leave. The food was good but in my opinion it not worth coming for the terrible service it makes for a really bad experience. There are so many amazing restaurants in Puglia with much better service and that don’t treat their guests like cattle. Really...
