Sushi y Tacos by Damiano — Restaurant in Fiumicino

Best sushi we’ve ever had, and I’ve dined at some of the best Japanese restaurants in Sydney Australia!! Flew in and was just using Fiumicino as a quick over night before driving south to Positano, we were just thinking of going to the hotel restaurant but decided to go for a pre-dinner spritz and found this fabulous little sushi restaurant. The specials board with 1 taco & 1 spritz for 10€ definitely tempting, and the charm of the young chef and vibe of the restaurant reeled us in. We tried the lobster taco and it was devine, so fresh, and lightly combined so no obvious seperate layers of rice and lobster. Just amazing and an unexpected combination. We asked the chef for his recommendations for sushi and we picked the Ipanema & the tempura. Wow just wow. The flavour combinations, the freshness, the unexpected delight of the way the tempura roll is made AMAZING. Sitting next to the fishing port, locals enjoying their neighbourhood chatting and having aperitif and coffee was a lovely atmosphere. We asked the chef if he could do another 8piece sushi for us but it was his choice whatever he wanted to make, and what an outstanding dish. A combination of different filling and topping including red prawn, white fish sashimi and truffle, sundried tomato and cheese and fresh salmon. This is a wonderful family run business with the son now their chef, sadly after losing their father last year, and mum and sister help in the front of house. We can’t recommend highly enough, you MUST come visit this little gem before you head into Roma or off to your other destinations while in Italy!! Bravo bravo bravo...

I really quite loved my experience here. I was here last week for supper. I've travelled quite a bit and have eaten my fair share of sushi. However, the ones that I had tried here were easily the most creatively crafted and unique. For example, one of the sushi such as the use of truffle, I wouldn't have thought of. It worked really well and I really liked it. Normally, I would pick and choose what kind of sush I like, but we had about 7 or so types in our platter, all of which were delicious and well presented. The Ebi Fry was really quite crispy and straight. Sometimes, they get soggy and flimsy, but not here! Even their tacos, I would have never expected to have such flavours, I experienced here. I definitely highly recommend this place. The service was good, they were kind and all smiles. They even had decorated balloons for us when we were there. They even personalised a serving for my goddaughter. Loved it!

Location was great, especially when it gets dark as the lights go up, the shimmering waters of the river get pretty. It could even be romantic at that point.

SKETCHY SERVER DOUBLECHARGED AND KICKED ME OUT. Though I was the only one in the restaurant the majority of the time the server still brought the wrong food and then double billed me for both food and drinks. When I noticed my change was wrong and called attention to this she denied I paid my bill and tried to charge me AGAIN. She was really struggling with the POS and had to ask for help several times. I told her I wasn't in a rush, I didn't mind waiting for them to confirm against the till (because I paid in cash and I wanted the amount I was overcharged back), another staff member suggested checking the video camera over the till, but she refused saying she was too busy (with literally one table of two). Then she kicked me out while raising her voice and claiming (in Italian) I was a liar and a thief in front of the other staff and customers! And the chef took her side without checking!! TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. If you aren't totally fluent in Italian I would avoid this place...
