Chalet Fontana — Restaurant in Florence

I would give zero stars if that was an option. We were seated outside and given the bar menu, we ordered drinks, the drinks came. We waited and then had to ask if we could have a food menu. We were told that our table was too small for food and we would have to move tables. However, there were 2 tables next to us with 2 different couples and it was obvious from all the dishes on their tables that they had both been served meals on the tables that we were told were “too small” for us to eat on. We were given a food menu but no one ever came back to take our order, we waited for about 40 minutes. In the end we got up and went to the bar to pay for 2 drinks so we could leave and go somewhere to eat. Even when asking for our check they tried to charge us with a surcharge of half the cost of the total bill. Terrible, horrible restaurant, definitely avoid it. We chose this restaurant based on a recommendation from a friend. I booked it weeks in advance and was told about the beautiful garden setting it offers. Upon arrival we were seated in a stuffy back room with no view and no air. The menu choices were very limited, but the biggest disappointment was the horrendously RUDE service. We were clearly an inconvenience to them. At one point even, my sister got up from the table to take a picture of our group of 7, and the server who was standing there watching ran out of the room as not to be asked to take a picture of us all together. There were only two other tables there so it was not that they were busy. I asked at the end why we were seated inside, the server said they had a party there earlier that day. Had I known that I would have booked a different day. Now knowing what I know I would not have booked this at all. Oh, and it was the most expensive meal we had in all of Florence. Truly...

Do not go to this restaurant - small portions, overpriced and bad food. I ordered seitan which was very bland and hard to chew. My partner ordered duck ragu which was tasteless and poor, worse than canned sauce. We were still feeling hungry because of the tiny portion, disgusted by the food and feel like we wasted our money. We were unaware of the price of the water and that there was an extra cover charge. The tastiest was the complementary bread and it wasn't even that good. We told the waiter about our dissatisfaction and he said he'd inform the chef. Later I sent an email to the restaurant with no response.
