Trattoria La Grotta Parri — Restaurant in Florence

My best friend and I had lunch here on Thu 22nd AND Fri 23rd June 2023. That was the only restaurant I wanted to eat at in my precious 2 days in Florence. If they were open for breakfast and dinner, I would have gone there too. Why? Family atmosphere: The service was good, but even better was the warmth and family atmosphere - from the granny in the kitchen to the front of house staff, and the customers who were mostly local residents (always the best sign of a good restaurant - when it has the neighborhood's support). FOOD: Unpretentious, tasty Italian food cooked with love and local ingredients. On Thu, we had a caprese salad, tomato risotto, beans and tuna, and panna cotta with caramel sauce. Fri was fish day (I am a Catholic and forgot this was hence I missed out on the tripe), so it was cod, pasta with anchovies, and salad. And 2 macchiatos - I would have easily had 2 more but that would have caused a stir Prices: OMG unbelievable. So cheap compared to the tourist trap prices downtown! Gli anni ci rendono , se non cinici , spesso disincantati . Ci sarò passato davanti milioni di volte , intendo dire , alla Grotta Parri , prendendo la Bolognese anda e rianda . Sbirciavo dalla macchina il menù sulla lavagna accanto all' ingresso , nel mentre delle code generate dal semaforo , giù a valle. Poi, la spinta di un pensiero più forte del solito , complice la cessazione dell' attività di un altro esercizio simile dov' ero andato con gioia per un quarto di secolo , me ne ha fatto varcare la soglia , proprio come accade per effetto di quelli che chiamiamo colpi del destino . Nei mangiari preparati dalla famiglia Parri oltre alla perizia ed alla qualità degli ingredienti c' è tanto del garbo della miglior Toscana . Forchettata dopo forchettata , te ne accorgi quasi commuovendoti ed allora i tuoi sessant' anni ritornan giovanotti e tu sei lieto d' andarci in solitudine come d' invitarci gli amici migliori per quel miracolo della convivialità che è vita nella vita . Non c' è una voce , dico una , che sia stonata nel coro che vi canta . Sarà dura , da qui in poi , per consimili locali pareggiare con la pratica della Parrata in purezza . Del resto settantacinque anni di gestione unica non s' allineano per caso . Sia a terreno o dopo i quindici gradini che accompagnano al caratteristico ipogeo , desinare alla Grotta Parri è un gesto di autentica delizia che consiglio a chiunque, e perché no , persino al mio peggior nemico . Affinché, da questo punto di partenza possa principiare quel lento cammino di guarigione che , a forza di ribollite , mena alla pace...

What a great surprise! I came here a bit skeptical as it seemed quiet during the week, but on the weekend it is packed with locals spending time with their families. The menu is short but solid, written in vernacolo fiorentino 🤩. - The walls are covered with Viola souvenirs and old black-and-white photos of Florence, giving it a cool, local vibe. The staff were super friendly and managed to stay on top of things even during the busy hours.
