When you are traveling, you are searching & looking for ideas for the restaurant, sometimes you have just ask the locals where they eat. Non-touristy restaurants are all about preserving old traditions, flavors, taste, techniques like the way grandmas cook. We found this gem of a local Osteria outside City Center of Florence on the recommendation of our Airbnb host. I think we may have been the only tourists there. The antipasti of Trio of Crostini, Tuscan salami & Pecorino Toscana with onion mostarda set the standard to the dinner. -The Fresh Tagliarini with truffles & butter was to die for. The Wild Boar stew with olives was superb The Handmade Pappardelle with wild boar sugo & juniper berries was excellent. The local Sangiovese wine from Marema complemented the dinner very well. Desserts of Apple Tart, Panacotta & Tiramisu desserts were equally top notch. We would have gone there again had we 1 more day...

We did not enjoy this place. Our waitress seemed ticked off that we didn’t want wine. The well worn bag of bread we were given contained stale chunks. The olive oil bottle , had been refilled many times and did not contain the high quality oil the bottle presented. Our pasta dish came with crunchy, not al dente, pasta. We sent it back, and it arrived reheated, and not much better. This was a shame as the sauce was tasty. The grilled chicken dish with shaved Parmesan cheese seemed to be made of a good quality chicken, but was somewhat dry and barely seasoned. After taking our order, our unpleasant waitress never came back to our table again, rather we had to deal through the busboy, who actually was an improvement. One of the dishes we ordered never came, but we weren’t charged for it. The spinach was made from frozen. You can do better...

The food at this restaurant is alright and doesn't warrant a 1 star rating, but the absurdity of the service drags this into the dirt. The bread given is rock hard the pasta dishes are alright, and the salami sampler is uninspiring. The real issue is that the wait staff is actively upset that you are in the restaurant, when calling over the water to get your order taken they yell while looking like you kicked their dog even though you waited 15 minutes without any interaction. The food for a party of 4 came out separated by roughly 10 minutes, which when pointed out gets you yelled at by your waiter arguing it was 3 minutes(which is both untrue and an absurd point to argue). By far the worst meal we had visiting Italy - where to begin… the bread was rock hard, tasted a couple days old. We ordered salads and when we asked for a dressing they just brought out a bottle of olive oil, and seemed annoyed that we asked. Their specialty the Florence ribeye was a kilogram of raw gristle that my dog would not have eaten. I asked that they at least make it medium-rare but no they wouldn’t have it. It’s a great thing that the service staff don’t accept tips, that might be the reason for the terrible service. I jokingly said if your ever in Texas stop by and I’ll show you how to actually cook a steak. Total disappointment. Was really looking forward to some great Florence cuisine. Would not recommend !!!

Da tempo volevo provare questa osteria, dopo averla vista trionfare in TV con il Tegame del Carcerato, ed oggi, per il mio compleanno, ho deciso di togliermi questo sfizio. All'ingresso l'arredamento colpisce subito per il suo stile rustico e ben curato, d'effetto le trecce d'aglio che scendono dal soffitto. A leggere il menù c'è solo l'imbarazzo della scelta ed ogni piatto sembra più appetitoso dell'altro, con una gran varietà di pietanze tradizionali. Cominciamo con i crostini con fegatini, lampredotto e polentina fritta per me e per la mia compagna, che non mangia frattaglie, hanno gentilmente preparato delle polentine con funghi e con pomodoro; le polentine erano veramente speciali, tra le migliori mai mangiate, ma i vari condimenti risultavo tutti poco sapidi. Tra i primi i Rigatoni alla Nana muta erano molto gustosi ma, a voler essere puntigliosi, l'olio nel ragù era veramente eccessivo; la Pasta e Ceci era invece un po' "sciocca". Siamo poi passati alle specialità su cui avevamo le più alte aspettative ma che invece ci hanno duramente delusi: il Tegame del Carcerato era appena tiepido, alcuni bocconi quasi freddi, ed il gusto non era così intenso come mi sarei aspettato da un tripudio di frattaglie; problema inverso per il Maialino di Latte, in cui il sapore del finocchio era così preponderante da far desistere la mia compagna dal mangiarlo ed anche io, che non amo questa spezia, ho fatto davvero fatica a finirlo, peccato perché la carne era di prima qualità e la cottura perfetta. I dolci, Cheesecake ai frutti di bosco e Tiramisù, erano fatti in casa e tutti buoni. Vista la voluminosa clientela, il locale ha sicuramente i suoi pregi ma personalmente sono rimasto deluso, soprattutto dal tanto decantato Tegame del Carcerato; un elenco degli ingredienti sul menù ed una presentazione più esaustiva da parte del cameriere aiuterebbero sicuramente nella scelta dei piatti.

The two desperate ravenous foreign eaters must have amazed the staff. Me and my friend were aware that we were eating like beasts but we were really starving.🥲Pasta with porcini and veal shank and tiramisu and bread are all soooo delicious. If I weren’t leaving Firenze tomorrow I would definitely come back again. I hope I can bring my family here to have dinner someday!! By the way it makes me feel guilty that I didn’t finish my braised veal shank. I was really hungry but somehow overrated my stomach. All in all it was an awesome meal and OMG I would be thankful if our waiter could forget quickly how wildly we ate😭

The two desperate ravenous foreign eaters must have amazed the staff. Me and my friend were aware that we were eating like beasts but we were really starving.🥲Pasta with porcini and veal shank and tiramisu and bread are all soooo delicious. If I weren’t leaving Firenze tomorrow I would definitely come back again. I hope I can bring my family here to have dinner someday!!
