La Puritate — Restaurant in Gallipoli

Racist establishment. If you’re Asian, avoid at all costs. They close at 2.30pm, but when we arrived at 1.30, they insisted on shoving us in the back room when the front area facing the ocean with windows had plenty of tables citing that they were “full”. Initially, the young waiter had guided us to the front room and was about to show us a table, but an older guy blocked him and angrily insisted we sit at the back despite there being plenty of tables in the front by the windows with the views. The back room is dark and horrible and had no guests at all. They wanted us right by the exit. They insisted it was full, but it was plain for all to see—the front room was more than half empty, and with less than hour left of service, there’s no way they had 5 more tables of guests to fill from prior reservations. There were no other guests entering in sight. On top of that, they were very rude and just kept tutting at us...

In a nutshell, a traditional restaurant with good food where you should avoid everything that's fried.

I was a little bit disappointed by La Puritate after having dinner there with a few friends. Their seafood starter is great and original, the seafood pastas are nice and tasty and the giant shrimps (gamberoni) were fantastic and cooked just right. While the cooks do all those very well, the fried fish balls of the starter and the fried squids are a failure. For the fish balls, they were too fried and I couldn't even say what was in. Regarding the squids, they were dry, chewy and tasteless. Also, the Gallipoli style fish (breaded and gratin ?) is good but the recipe is kind of a waste when you have fresh quality fish available.

So go and enjoy the fresh fish and seafood, just avoid everything that's fried until the cooks figure out how to fry...
