Osteria Mandolara — Restaurant in Garda

We are so confused... After reading the reviews we were excited to try this restaurant. It started well, with a lovely welcome drink and delicious bread. The female staff member was lovely but the male member of staff was not friendly and barely made eye contact. We were recommended the salmon special which we ordered asking if it was a "main course". We were told yes, so also ordered grilled vegetables. It turned out the salmon special was more of an appetizer, which was very nice, but there was obviously a miscommunication so we decided we would order something else like a desert or some more drinks. Our plates were collected and we then sat for about half an hour at an empty table with out being offered anything else or being given the opportunity to even look at the menu again. Friendly family run restaurant specialising in fish and seafood, set back from the lake, but only a few minutes walk to the promenade. Warm welcome from the host. Very good well priced wine list, useful advice given on wine selection, and very affordable wines suggested. Welcomed in with a little glass of Prosecco. Followed by delicious cured salmon, then the best spaghetti vongole we’ve ever eaten. Generous portion of clams in a deliciously garlicky pasta. Tuna steak cooked on the charcoal grill was delicious. Had the most delicious meal on our last night in Garda yesterday. We shared the mixed antipasti with warm dumplings, brushetta and mixed meats and my family all ate fish main courses which were huge and perfectly cooked. The grilled fish platter for 2 was my particular favourite my daughter and I loved the tuna 😋. My son ate swordfish for the first time and said it would order it should again and my husband had the rooster with potatoes, which was full of flavour. Huge range of desserts to choose from too.
