Picture this. You duck down a narrow street in beautiful seaside Genoa and walk past this tiny little place just a stones throw away from the train station.
If you decide to stop at Ristorante Pre-Boggion, you will have made one of the best decisions of your life because you have just found one of the best little places in Italy.
The interior is cozy and unassuming and the menu is concise, but don’t be fooled, this place is serving incredible Italian food from a tiny kitchen.
We started with the chickpea insalata, a selection of regional cheeses, and fried dumplings. The insalata was beautifully seasoned with fresh produce, great olive oil, and came with perfectly delicious chickpea polenta. The selection of regional cheeses were fabulous with a good combination of fresh and aged choices. The fried dumplings were also incredible. Perfectly crispy and served piping hot with delicious melted cheese on the inside. All 3 are highly recommended and I would bet anything the other antipasti are just as good.
This restaurant doesn’t have a fancy wine list and doesn’t need one. Order wine by the glass or the half liter and try both the red and the white. The white is smooth and light with notes of honey and the red is served sparkling with notes of earthy citrus.
My date got the ravioli with meat sauce and I selected the pasta with walnut sauce. The raviolis are tender, the sauce and filling complement each other perfectly. It is among the best pasta I have ever had. The walnut sauce was delicious as well, with perfectly shaped and seasoned pasta and generous portions. Try it with the parmesan served at the table.
For desert, we shared the almond cookies. They’re the perfect finish to a delicious meal. Not too sweet, delicious almond taste, and tender pastry.
You might think for these generous portions, lovingly crafted food, and great Italian wine, you would pay a lot. But for wine, appetizers, pasta, and desert, the meal was under €25 a person, and would be a steal at double the price. Truly an exceptional dining experience.
Don’t let the humble looks of the restaurant fool you. Pre-Boggion is a gem and is a steal at double the price. Exceptional food and service with ambiance like you’re eating around the...
Read moreContacted this restaurant a couple of months before arriving in Genoa as we wanted a Sunday lunch for 12 for a family reunion. Their response was fast and very welcoming. We arrived as planned out table was all laid out in the courtyard. Just beautiful. The food excellent and although the waitress said she didn't speak a lot of English everything worked perfectly. The pesto pasta was sublime, as was the wine.
It fitted our families needs perfectly. They even let us leave some luggage as a couple were heading to the airport as soon as lunch was done. Really happy with everything. Thank you...
Read moreWe had lunch & dinner here. My husband is vegetarian & celiac, they were able to accommodate both...including Gluten free pasta, gnocchi, Ravioli & bread. They had the BEST minestrone soup, with or without pasta, it had fresh pesto in it. The pasta, (gluten free) with walnut sauce was incredible. Martine gave us a suggestion to visit Santa Margherita & Posotino & directions how to get there. We went & had a fabulous time, thanks to her suggestion. The menu also offers items foe meat eaters & those nor...
