U gelato du Caruggiu — Restaurant in Genoa

While travelling through northern Italy for a month I had gelato in Lucca, Milan, Azzano, Lenno, Tremezzo, Varenna, Bellano and more. My personal hands-down favorite was this shop in Genoa. I can't speak for every flavor, but what I can tell you is I'm consistent in my choice of mint, chocolate, or mint/chocolate. A scoop of mint and a scoop of chocolate here beat all of the rest, no question. There are really interesting flavors here, as well as popsicles and other treats, most of them I didn't try. But if you're in the area I suggest you should not pass up this shop. While it may not top your personal list depending on your flavor preference, I doubt it will hit the bottom. Nice gelateria with some interesting flavors. The man working in the store was very nice and friendly. We took 3 flavors ice cream. Greek yogurt, salted peanuts and (when I saw it I understood that this is the must try flavor) truffle ones. The truffle ice cream was not in the fridge, so we asked if they had it since there was a paper telling that they had it. And they had it! The salted peanuts flavors wasn’t very intense and it didn’t taste like salted peanuts but more just an ordinary peanut flavor, that was not really intense. The Greek yogurt tasted good. Four star for the uniqueness of flavors, three star for the quality and taste of the gelato. I tried red wine, violet flower, and red peppers, all of them are truly unique to this store, I have not seen the same flavors anywhere else in Italy. The actual quality and flavor of the gelato however, is average, can't compete with the best gelato I had in other parts of Italy.
