This place will scam you! Buyer beware. What starts off as a nice, fun experience becomes a hustle to inflate your bill with things you do not want or ask for.
We stopped in for drinks and a snack while waiting for another restaurant to open where we had made a reservation. We informed the waiter, Jon Luca, of such. Multiple times.
He proceeded to take our order for drinks, and delivered one item of food that we actually ordered. He was fun, nice and offered us “gifts.” These so called “gifts” were never ordered, continued to arrive, we stated that we did not order them, and they kept on and on. I eventually had to absolutely refuse a massive seafood platter that was brought out, only to have our server, and then the owner / manager act as though I had hurt their feelings asking “didn’t you like it?” Even after this, four more plates of food arrived. What should have been a bill for drinks, two appetizers and a shared entree (they were also serving sea urchin, which they told us was illegal and treated it as a delicacy), became a massive bill of over $400 euros.
My husband was so irritated that he left the table because they would not stop. When the bill came, it was over $400 euros, absolutely absurd. I really had no choice but to pay it, although I should have refused. After telling my husband what we were charged, he went back and confronted the manager, who said he would refund the purchase. This has not happened. I hoped that the business would make it right, but, they have not. Also, after discussing with other locals, it seems that this is a game that they may run often.
Stay away, don’t believe the friendly con they start with. This is nothing more than predatory practices taking advantage of tourists. This review includes a photo of our waiter, beginning his routine with our table. Walk away, go across the street, you will be happy you did. Don’t be a...
Read moreWORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! Don’t get distracted by the sweet older man singing and the complementary drink while they prepare your table. They are about to scam you!
The waiter basically talked over us and took our menus away while telling us that the real Italian experience is him deciding what we eat. We tried several times saying no, he doesn’t listen to you, he just talks over you and says you’ll love it. Before we know it they are opening wine and pouring it so full so they can just open another bottle to chill. Then what we thought he said he was ordering was one of each entrée. NOPE! He sent out four of the tuna tartares, then a massive seafood platter (which was all raw and only our husband’s ate it because it’s not at all what we wanted). At this point, I was trying to refuse any more food and especially the barracuda. We just didn’t have room for anything else. The server was adamant that it was too late and that the fish was already cooked. Then again, four lobster linguines showed up (we only ordered one) then a massive barracuda! The server couldn’t stop talking up the barracuda and how amazing it is. We kept telling him we were so full and didn’t want this much food and how we know he deliberately did this. It took 15 minutes for them to divvy the barracuda up to four different plates. by then we were beyond stuffed. We were scared to see the bill, but I was guessing around €400-€600 UNFORTUNATELY THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A DREAM! Our bill was €910!!!! I’ve never had a meal for 4 people that cost that much!
Maybe this just happens to tourists but it was an awful experience and my friends called it early & said we are getting scammed. I wish we would have got up after the tuna tartare paid for that and walked away!!!!
I hope this review saves someone else from having the...
Read moreOur lovely hotel, San Montano recommended Piccoletto when we asked for a casual spot with good pizza and pasta. Upon arrival, Francesco was very welcoming. I was initially very reluctant to dine here after reading some of the negative reviews, but I have to say, the food was great! The Margarita pizza with San Marzano tomatoes and bufalo mozzarella was delicious. We also enjoyed a yummy pasta - bucatini with fresh tomatoes. The basket of pizza bread (we did not ask for but enjoyed) was also very good. There was an older gentleman playing the guitar who was entertaining the crowd. We didn’t engage him but he introduced himself and when he realized we were American, he played, “Tu vuò fa' l'Americano.” We expressed our appreciation and tipped him €10. When we received our bill, I was surprised to see a cover charge for bread we didn’t ask for, but more importantly, a €15 additional service charge for the entertainment. We had already tipped Francesco €20 before the bill even arrived. It sort of ended the evening on a sour note; hard to feel like we weren’t taken advantage of. If you’re going to charge a 15% service charge for entertainment, you should mention that before your guests are seated. Just my two cents:). Aside from that little unfortunate surprise, it was a very...
