We visited this restaurant for dinner during our vacation. The starters were nice, but everything went downhill from the main course. I ordered the Today’s Special tortellini, and shockingly, I found a fish scale in the dish. The server apologized, and we were ready to move on from this small incident. However, the dessert experience was truly disappointing. We ordered a lemon tiramisu (€22), but what we got was poorly presented, with hard ladyfingers and just some lemon cream on top. It didn’t resemble a proper tiramisu at all. When we raised our concerns with the manager, his attitude was surprisingly rude. He spoke to us in a condescending way, almost as if assuming that, because we were Asian, we wouldn’t know what a good tiramisu should be like. He didn’t even check the dessert himself and just insisted it was fine. Eventually, he took it back and returned without a proper explanation, saying the chef apologized and handing us a different dessert without a word. We were very disappointed and ended up leaving after speaking to the boss. For a restaurant in a high-end hotel, this level of service and attitude from the manager was shocking. We’ve been visiting southern Italy every year for our holidays, and unfortunately, this was by far the worst dining experience we’ve had.

Donna Clelia Exclusive Restaurant is a romantic journey in Amalfi Costal culinary pleasure. From the delicious assortment of antipasta to several courses of food, our taste buds danced with delight. The wait staff is witty and kind and meeting Chef David and Sous Chef made the whole experience an excellent affair. All of the food is locally procured (regionally speaking), and Chef is working on an updated menu for next month. We will most definitely make our way back here on future trips. Pro tip: ignore Google or Apple Maps and their wonky directions through the neighborhoods and up 150 ft elevation gain worth of stairs; go to the base of the Hotel Botanico San Lazzaro and take the inclinator (like a lift but on a slant sharper than a funicular - think Luxor hotel in Vegas). Saves on time and makes you less sweaty. Pro tip 2: Sunday nights are fairly vacant (most tourists are heading home) so make the reservation and enjoy an empty or near to empty experience for an insular, romantic evening with your loved one.
