Oh this is quite lovely. A modern take on contemporary Italian, with touches of nouvelle cuisine (especially in the case of amuse-bouche).
We came in with a personal request for lighter dishes and the staff were very accommodating - both in terms of recommending dishes that would fit that profile and even creating a salad that wasn't on the menu that day, which served as an appetizer for both of us. The amuse-bouche was served on rocks (literal rocks) and while intriguing and light, did not hold the candle to both the amazing salad and even better mains that followed. It was a very nice gesture of the restaurant though, and certainly much appreciated.
Speaking of appreciation, the two dishes we ended up taking were both fabulous. The fish in tempura was light, the fish was moist and the sides complemented it very nicely. Maybe the portion size is not exactly the most impressive but the taste was spot on (conversely, the one portion of salad divided between the two of us was plentiful so in the end we left the place full). The pasta dish meanwhile was coated in an incredibly flavourful orange sauce and got progressively better with each taste. From my understanding that dish was not on the regular menu as well so once again I must applaud the chef's creativity.
Service is excellent. Coperto comes at 4 euro per person. Prices are on the higher side (although still reasonable) and the place has both indoor seating and a few tables outside in a relatively peaceful surrounding of a side street. The only minor downside is that any of the smoking guests come out to smoke outside, and given the narrow alley it's nigh impossible to...
Read moreWe were sent there with amazing reccomendation by the hotel stuff, as a great alternative to the Michelin star restaurant we wanted to go to initially. Would not reccomend it, at least not the tasting menu. Aiming for fine dining but failling to offer the experience. We spent there two hours regreting our decision and the fact that we had to wait for all 5 courses to be served. We chose the tasting menu, sent back two of the five dishes. Should we have not been hungry, we would have ate maximum one, which was tasty : pasta with pecorini cheese if I remember well the waiter description. Altough after the first dish that was sent back they offered another one instead, for the second one they didn’t bother. At the end no appologies, no discount, no curiosity for how we considered the food, altough in the begining they mentioned how much they appreciate our trust when choosing this option, the most expensive one on the menu. Everybody just shrugged their shoulders while delivering the bill, not interested in the feedback. We left feeling dissapointed by how we...
Read moreWe came here with high hopes as we had seen many great reviews. We had the 5 course tasting menu.
The first course was mackeral with pork lard, this was fine. Second course was pork with mustard ice cream, this was the best course where it was delicious and innovative. Third course was ravioli, it was fine. The 4th course of bonito with bearnaise sauce. In all honesty, this fish tasted similar to the mackeral in the first course. And in a 5 course tasting menu, this should not happen. The dessert, was good. My point is, at this price point, at 65 euro per person, we did not feel it was worth the value for the price. Also, besides the second course, the temperature for the other dishes were only lukewarm.
The wine that was recommended to us was excellent and that, I credit the excellent waiter.
I understand that this is a small restaurant and I dislike writing less than stellar reviews, but in this case I feel like there was potential to be much better but it fell short...
