Ristorante La Cambusa — Restaurant in Malcesine

Not a great start - pounced on by a waiter who tried to persuade us to sit and order when we were browsing the menu. Beer and coke - no problem. Bread was stale - no oil, vinegar or butter. Pizza with ham - no herbs/flavouring, just a margarita with ham scattered - basic but edible. Risotto del mare (Seafood Risotto) almost inedible. Arrived volcanically hot - had obviously been microwaved. Octopus, calamari, mussels & prawns all very rubbery and tasteless - King Prawn meat was inaccessible rubbery concrete. Highly suspicious that none of the seafood was fresh - most likely frozen. Rice undercooked (crunchy in places!) and very oily. Herbs had twigs! Various empty shells thrown in for effect only - found most of them only contained rice. Only 1 mussel and 1 cockle/mini scallop actually found in their shells. Very little evidence of either mussel nor cockle in the meal itself. Was told the chef scooped them all out of the shells - no evidence of that at all. Shells had definitely been cleaned out and washed way before being tossed into this dish. Took the dish back uneaten (apart from where I’d picked at it and tried to pile up the empty shells). Refused to pay for the dish. A brief attempt by two staff who tried to tell me it was fresh, chef scooped shells etc. but they gave way. ONLY GETTING TWO STARS BECAUSE THEY AGREED I SHOULDN’T PAY FOR THE RISOTTO. Highly recommend any future customers stick to food that is ok if microwaved from frozen and are happy to be...

Going by the positive reviews on Google we attended this evening. We were seated and menus produced. They were laminated with pictures of the food - should have been a waring sign. We ordered bruschetta with mozzarella and tomatoes, spaghetti carbonara, a mixed salad and prosecco. The waiting staff were rude and ignorant and very uninterested in us. The drinks arrived quickly as did the food. The carbonara pasta was thick and undercooked, it not include pancetta just thin ham. The bruscetta had cheese which looked like cheddar on it and too many cheap tomatoes and garlic. The mixed salad was not fresh and again used cheap ingredients. I asked for the bill and was not even acknowledged when paying . We have visited Italy over fifteen times and can safely say this was without doubt the worst meal we have ever had whilst in the country. You grow to expect far more than this. They are using a great central location to pass off poor quality food -it seems to agree with the mantra of quantity over quality Do NOT trust the reviews of this place -...

Honestly? the food was OK, but the waiter service was terrible !! Waiters were pushy, it is impossible to relax, They are mistakes. The waiters make jokes among themselves. They can close the umbrella by pushing towards the client, they don't apologize for it. Why is bruschetta served with cheese ?? (I'm not sure, it was mozzarella??)The original one is only with tomatoes.
