Our experience at Ristorante Pizzeria Italia da Nikolas left much to be desired. While most of the food was decent and reasonably priced, the pasta dish was a major disappointment, possibly one of the worst we've encountered in our travels across Italy.
The drinks were passable, but the espresso was far from satisfactory, resembling drainage water. Moreover, it was served without a still water glass on the side.
The service was disorganized and lacking in warmth, with different staff members handling various aspects of our dining experience. The overall demeanor of the staff seemed unhappy, and the lack of proper guidance on menu recommendations further added to our disappointment.
If you plan to sit on the deck, be prepared to pay an additional 2€ per person, and attempting to relocate to another table may lead to unnecessary confrontation with the staff, despite the fee paid.
Furthermore, the restaurant's location next to the public water transport port resulted in constant noise from motorized boats, affecting the overall ambiance. To our surprise, there was no atmospheric music on the deck to offset the disruptive noise.
Politeness and genuine recommendations were noticeably absent during our visit, leaving us with a sense of regret for choosing this restaurant. If you're in Malcesine, we recommend exploring other dining options to ensure a more enjoyable and...
Read moreI had high hopes for this restaurant after reserving a table early in the morning for dinner. Upon arrival, however, the staff had no record of our reservation. Apparently, reservations without a name aren’t taken seriously. It wasn’t a busy night either – the large dining area had only about 6 tables occupied, yet there were 5 servers on duty. Plenty of staff for the number of guests, one would think.
Sadly, the service was chaotic at best. Drinks were mixed up, plates were left uncleared for far too long, and the servers seemed more focused on wandering aimlessly with empty hands than attending to their tables. At one point, it looked like they were more interested in eating themselves than serving customers.
The food was a mixed bag. While the main course was acceptable in taste, the appetizer was disappointing and poorly executed. It’s rare for us to feel this let down, but for the first time ever, we left without leaving a tip – a distinction this place had to work hard to earn.
Overall, this experience could generously be rated 2 stars, but it leans heavily toward just 1. Would...
Read moreI would have never expected to leave a place super enthused for their salad but Nikolas accomplished that.
We drove for over an hour along Garda lake on our first exploration of that area of the world.
Blessed by a day of sunlight in a fortnight of bad weather we arrived at Malcesine ready for lunch. We wanted something light and fast.
Malcesine is a beautiful village overlooking the lake. Going down a ramp one can find Nikolas, almost at the end of a pier.
Perfect location for a tourist trap (as easily 90% of the guests were tourists).
We decided to stop there anyway and just lower the expectations. It would have been ok for that instance.
Then saw pizzas platters of fries seafood passing by. Then we saw pasta passing by. And they were all delicious.
Our salads tasted amazing. Every single ingredient, taken individually, was tasty and presented in a lovely refreshing way. Even the small mozzarellas, which normally would be tasteless when consumed in the north of Italy, were tasty!
The view improved the experience even more.
Service was pleasant.
