Zio Ninì — Restaurant in Matera

The food here was delicious and the owners were so nice, that we came here 3 times during our stay in Matera last summer! This is a little family owned restaurant/sandwich shop located in a cave, that serves varieties of bruschetta, antipasto, traditional pane (bread) di Matera, panini, pizze fritte, and wine. They also sell local items such as pasta, peppers, etc. It was our favorite restaurant in Matera! The food was so fresh and of great quality and everything is also reasonably priced! The family that owns Zio Nini is so sweet, hospitable, and friendly. I love when restaurants are family owned, and you can see that they really care about their customers. The antipasto was filled with delicious fresh meats and cheeses. The bruschetta was so fresh and delicious with the Materano bread! And the pizza fritta was my favorite. The dough/crust of the pizza is fried, which makes it unique and taste amazing. My favorite was the one with the Materano peppers (peperoni cruschi). If you are in Matera, you definitely need to come here for lunch or dinner!! It’s also centrally located right in the main sassi (caves) area of Matera. I can’t wait to come...

What a place! Fair prices, Fantastic food, excellent service (I mean: EXCELLENT SERVICE). The guys kept their world and arrange a table for the 4 of us. We had 2 VEGAN in the group, never been so easy, the girl (she is phenomenal) explained all the vegan options we had, suggested also portions and shared plates.. she seemed to rule the entire place, never stop and keeping everything aligned, she is really something, this place is so good in all senses, it's the perfect dinner experience you will get. Il locale perfetto, nulla di piu. Ci siamo innamorate di questo posto durante un giro alla ricerca del nostro primo pranzo a Matera, per i precedenti davamo una sbirciata all'interno, poi al menu e infine alle recensioni online, per Zio Ninì nulla di tutto questo:lo abbiamo visto e ci siamo fiondate dentro dopo uno sguardo d'intesa che diceva :"è lui". Il bancone dei salumi e formaggi sulla destra, i diversi livelli con i tavolini nei sassi, le lampade stupende create dal simpaticissimo marito di Lidia, la proprietaria, le luci, i quadri, il Gesù che compie la moltiplicazione dei pani, tutto perfetto. L'altro miracolo è quello che fanno con il cibo, è pura poesia,un'esperienza sensoriale unica, tutto ottimo, assaggiate qualsiasi cosa con fiducia , non rimarrete delusi. Alla fine abbiamo prenotato per tutti i successivi pasti della nostra permanenza a Matera. Un'ultima menzione per Lidia, il cuore dello Zio Ninì:è accogliente, simpatica, sa raccontare la sua cucina con passione, bellissima donna mediterranea, perfetta padrona di casa, non sei un cliente ma l'ospite più importante della sua casa e noi a casa ci siamo sentite, coccolate e viziate. Tutto il personale è meraviglioso e disponibile ma Lidia e il marito, che abbiamo conosciuto e con cui avremmo parlato per ore, è stato davvero amore!
