We were looking to top several already fine meals in Monterosso al Mare, Cinque Terre. The reviews were great, menu meeting our tastes but I don't believe most ratings above 4.5/5. Some one has a bad experience or doesn't like a prepation. Al Bistro scored 4.7/5 at the time, and after our experience there I believe it and know why. They accommodated our limited Italian, joyfully helped us with the menu and provided wonderful service. The food exceeded expectations for the price. Beautiful presentation, ultra-fresh, substantial but not excessive portions and it tasted great. We had Burrata pesto salad, salted anchovies, Mista (mixed) fried seafood, and beef cheeks with potatoes and greed beans. The seafood as very lightly and delicately breaded. It consisted of prawns, anchovies, fsh filet, and a lot of calamari. All tender, and slightly crunchy. The beef was melt in your mouth fabulous. Wine list adequate, psired well with food and include nice local choices. This place was hopping, and given the limited hours arrive early to ensure a table, and not...

I had a large, draft beer, a large bottle of chilled sparkling water, and the pizza diavolo. I specifically asked for it to be spicy, so she offered me a bottle of chilli olive oil, which did the trick. Oh, and some bread with olive oil to start with to get the juices running.
All was good. The owner was very pleasant when presenting the bill. Apparently, they are new here this season, so they are looking for feedback. I was more than...
