One of the most terrible experiences of all our adventures through cinque terra. We tried to enter their bar area but were refused; we were told that we could NOT have anything to drink unless we ordered food -- at which point we left. We returned some time later after finding a wonderful place to sit and relax and have a cocktail. We asked if we could sit side by side and they put up an awful fuss. The place was EMPTY and they gave us such a hard time about sitting next to one another. I have difficult hearing and it was a simple request --- but we were NOT accommodated at all. Well, we ordered some food and it was the most terrible meal I've ever had in all of Italy; the stuffed mussels were a joke as they were filled with tasteless breadcrumbs -- and the mussels themselves were tiny and hard to find in all the breading -- not like we get in Porto Venere. I order linguine and clams and after 2 bites, I could not eat anymore of it. The clams were smaller than my thumb nail and the dish itself was terribly seasoned. Please -- do NOT go to this place -- you will be disappointed to spend good money on a lousy product and wicked staff / owners. There are plenty of very good restaurants in Monterosso -- this is NOT one of them -- avoid at ALL costs. You will thank...
Read moreThis was one of the only places available to eat when we arrived after a long commute. Unfortunately, we were met with rude staff. Once we were seated, no one came to take our order, so I smiled at someone and tried to get their attention, they turned around and walked off. Eventually, as we placed our order we said grazie, and we’re usually met with ‘prego’… just nothing but sour looks in return. No one seemed to be friendly or reciprocate the politeness. The food was okay, generous servings. We then asked for the bill and we didn’t want to leave the money on the table (again, no one came out for service). I walked the money in and the guy that worked there just looked at me, so I placed the payment down and still, no words. I walked off and thought to myself, if the staff hate people and their jobs, move on. I will add that possibly the owner and one other girl were friendly… but the two main ones that served us made us not want to go back again. Unfortunate experience, and I can see others have experienced the same regarding...
Read moreWe couldn’t wait until 7-7:30pm for the other dinner restaurants to open so we came here based on our hotel’s recommendation. This review is based purely on food and not service, because outside of the U.S., service is not a thing culturally, but I respect that because they don’t work for tips and that’s cool with me. I like that tipping is optional and to do it when I feel it in my heart to, not because it’s obligatory.
The best things we ate here were the stuffed anchovies, lemon anchovies and tiramisu. So glad we tried anchovies during our stay as Cinque Terre is known for it.
After being in Italy for a week, we noticed that bread is never served hot, only cold and most of the time not super fresh, so we knew it wasn’t only this restaurant. Both the salmon ravioli and tagliolini with lobster were underwhelming, and my lobster was super dry and over cooked.
Overall, 4 stars for the dishes we enjoyed, plus they’re open all day,...
