Ó Paravisiello — Restaurant in Naples

We chose this restaurant after finding it on Google, where the pictures make the food look high quality. Unfortunately, the reality was completely different and honestly one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had.

We started with octopus salad. The octopus was extremely tough, chewy, and even semi-transparent in the center – a clear sign of poor or inadequate cooking. When we raised this, the waiter dismissed us by repeating “it’s fresh,” but anyone who regularly eats fresh octopus knows that freshness means tenderness and a clean bite, not rubbery, raw-like pieces.

The second starter was marinated anchovies. They had a bitter aftertaste and were drowned in vinegar so overpowering that it seemed more like an attempt to cover something than enhance the flavor.

Then came the fried fish. It was greasy, heavy, and unpleasant. To make things worse, I noticed something strange in my mouth and then realized there was a long hair deep-fried into the food. It wasn’t a hair that fell by accident at the table, it was literally cooked with the fish and stuck to the batter. When we pointed it out, the staff reacted with defensiveness instead of concern. Their excuse was laughable “nobody in the kitchen has long hair” as if that somehow made it acceptable. There was no apology, no professionalism, just argument and blame.

At that point we cancelled the rest of our order and asked for the bill. I left feeling not only disgusted by the food, but also insulted by the attitude of the staff.

I recommend you to check the comments from reviewers with a high number of reviews as it seems this place has many 5 stars reviews from people with very few reviews, and our experience was far from 5 star. During our 6 days stay in Naples, this restaurant was the worst in terms of taste and waiter's behaviour. First, they killed a lobster next to us as one of the tables asked for lobster. We are not vegetarians, but seeing a living animal killed by hand just next to us was not appetizing. Then our pasta did not arrive for 40minutes, they apparently forgot about our order because it wasn't a busy time, there were just 2 other tables. Then the pasta was not good, anyone could do a better one in a shorter time for much cheaper. Anyway, when we asked for the bill, the waiter asked if we could pay in cash, but there was no warning about this beforehand, and we said we don't have enough cash. then they brought the POS device. And the final straw was the waiter asked us to pay 30% more than the bill. As receivers of the service, customers should decide on the tip, not the waiter. and I was very surprised that he can ask for that amount after the poor service they provided. We stopped for a lunch at this restaurant, and we were surprised by totally unprofessional behaviour of staff. At the end the waiter bring us a bill, which was written on paper with pencil, with total amount 10 euros bigger than it should be. He also specifically asked for an extra tip on top of that, so we gave him 5euros plus. Then I asked him, if he can bring me a normal printed bill. He was obviously pissed off, but he bring us printed bill, where was clearly stated amount 10euros less than what he wrote with pencil on the fake bill… I told him it is incorrect what he billed before, and he started to lie and I said to give us back the 10 euros falsly billed. He didnt want to, and said he can give us back the 5 euros, which was totally insane because it was clear on paper that he charged us 10 more and then asked for another 5 euros tip.
