We just left Trattoria di Pignata. I will start off by saying that the food tasted good and seemed to be cooked well. We arrived at the restaurant and were seated immediately. After about 15 minutes our waitress, Rosa came to take our order. Not complaining yet, it was Saturday night and busy. While taking our order, which we attempted in Italian. The Waitress argued in my wife’s pronunciation of Red Wine. My wife ordered steak, and I ordered a pasta dish and 3 grilled meats. She asked if I wanted them both at the same time or later. (This may have been my error but I selected later.) my wife’s steak came followed by the pasta. Her steak was over cooked with a side of salad greens, but we weren’t asked how it should be cooked. Over an hour later, after the table was cleaned and the bottle of wine was gone. (Our waitress did not ever make it back to our table. She stood by the door helping customers 4 to 5 tables away. The tables around us were served by attentive waiters. At one point I gestured to another waiter and asked for the bill but he talked over me to the table next to ours answering their question. At an hour 15 my meat came out. It was hot and cooked very well. I have read these comments about service, and laughed them off as impatient Americans. This place turns over tables as fast as any casual dinning restaurant. There are more people in Napoli than restaurant seats but be warned. While the food is good the service is below established standards, even...
Read moreSeeing the reviews online, we thought we were in for a classic and safe napolitan food experience. The server assigned to us was so out of it we couldn't make out what was available or not on the menu as most items were not offered to begin with. Amongst other things, we ordered calamaries and ended up with some kind of fried octopus that we were unable to match to any items on the menu after verification. The table behind us ordered in Italian and ended up with normal calamaries that actually looked good. So far, no seasoning, no flavor, no side and about 8 unknown bites for 10 euros. Then, the tartare arrived (we were told sea food was worth it to try so why not), shrimp, tuna and white meat fish. 25 euros down the drain. About 200g of tasteless raw food the chef didn't even bother to fully cut. It was just strings of raw meat all holding up together with no sides to accompagny such as a simple cracker. If our server didn't look like she wanted to kill herself at any moment, it could have saved the situation a bit. We felt disrespected and soiled to have to pay such a high price for so little and so low quality. It made no sense when you put the prices of average restaurants in Napoli in perspective. A 3 euro margherita pizza would have been way better. It's a bad feeling when you are at a restaurant and get such an experience, everybody had one at some point and I don't wish...
Read moreWent here on a recommendation and on the back of reviews but was pretty disappointed. In an area that abounds with places to eat this place lacked anything to raise it above the rest. The interior is basic and lacking in atmosphere. The sense of urgency in the service meant that we felt under pressure to throw it down our necks and make way for the next customer in the queue. The bill was presented while we still had plates on the table and wine to drink. At the same time a woman stood waiting to change the tablecloth. I wasn't impressed with the quality of the food. The insalata de mare consisted of chopped up squid with 2 soggy prawns dumped on top and my main was 2 sausages with a spoonful of boiled spinach. Hardly inspired cuisine. My wife's mussels were good but her linguine Bolognese tasted like out of a jar. Stopped at those 2 courses and put it down to experience. The place is obviously busy - but every place is and even if the food is mediocre it would be...
