TOURIST TRAP, AVOID!
Bland tasteless food (spaghetti bolognese and grilled squid).
Photos on the street signs makes the place and food look like something that it was not. Spaghetti tasted like it came out of a box and the squid was just mediocre; the taste came only from the lemon wedge that I squeezed on it.
Worst part about this place is the waiters. While there, I witnessed and overheard one server tell two tables that “service charge” was not included on their bill and insisted that card payment was not available (however, it was bc they ended up accepting it for one of the tables). Waiter came back to the table that paid with card and still insisted a “separate tip” be given. After someone at the table told the waiter that they were not going to tip for the “service” the waiter became very rude and was openly and loudly making fun of one of the guys as he and his friends were leaving.
When it came time for me to pay for my bill, one waiter who did not speak English brought me the bill with a 2x €1.5 charge added to the bill. My wife questioned what it was for and he just pointed at the table and pretty much insinuated that it was for a 2 person “seating charge”. He then said “service charge not included”. That’s it, nothing more. His service was that he took our order and brought out the food and that’s it. After giving the bill he just hovered around and crouched close to my face almost in a demanding manner until I took out cash to pay for the bill. Like bro, we’re not buddy buddy, I’m not your friend so move away and back off. Anyways, the bill was €26, I gave him €30 (didn’t have smaller bills or coins otherwise I would’ve gave him exact amount) and he just took it and walked away. While he was walking away I heard him say €4? as if I was expected to give more. He never came back with change. We just got up and left after that.
Moral of my review, DON’T eat at Trattoria Toledo. You will be left unsatisfied and feeling like you’ve just been scammed. There are much better places right around the corner from this place. I’ve never experienced service with waiters demanding for tips while in Napoli much less anywhere in the region from tourists like I have...
Read moreI highly recommend you filter on negative reviews and read a few - especially from some people that have done a lot of reviews. You will see a theme…
Food was pretty good. Most of our table liked their meal.
We stopped by without reading many reviews, which is rare for us. This was a reminder why I always do so.
I got shady vibes quite quickly. First, we sat down and they brought the menu, but it was only the pasta menu. I asked about their pizzas, as that’s what I wanted to finish my trip with, and we thought we heard him say “max one pizza”. Uhh. Ok.
Food comes out. No drama. Decent, but not memorable. Music gets cranked up super loud with the waiters all singing along, which would be entertaining, except we sat down because it was relatively quiet and wanted to be able to hear each other.
Now we come to paying and we get the “cash only” line that lots of people have mentioned. “Really? We don’t have any cash. I’ll have to find an ATM.” Blank stares from the waiter. Off I go.
About 3 minutes later I get a message from my partner that they actually do accept cards. I walk back and the meal had been paid for. We walk away and I take a picture of their menu to post here.
Later in the day I had a sinking feeling that something else was off, so I asked about lunch to one of the members of our party, and asked how much their meal was. Everyone thought their meal was about 2eur more than the prices listed outside the restaurant (ie the price on the menu inside was higher than the price outside). There’s a possibility that each person remembered their cost incorrectly, but, our meal should have been 44eur + coperto, and our total bill was 56eur. Maybe coperto was 3eur per person, but that seems higher than usual. Either way, disappointed that I wasn’t more diligent reading reviews or paying attention to my shady vendor sixth sense; it was the end of our visit and I think I let...
Read moreThe service was quite bad. To avoid being bothered by people walking down the street, we asked if we could have a table by the wall instead of the street side. There was only one available and they told us it was reserved, along with the table next to it, for larger groups. They would only sit groups of 6 there. We had to sit on another table, which is fine. However, not 5 minutes after we got seated, a group of 2 people was placed on the table we requested and after another few minutes, an unrelated group of 3 was also sited. The tables were denied to us because they were supposedly reserved but this was very clearly not the case. The waiter that told us this was impolite and unapologetic doing so.
We asked for the carbonara, which they were out of. Again, this is fine, however the same waiter described the available menu in a very condescending manner. He made us feel uncomfortable more than once.
When we asked if we could pay by card, the same happened. The waiter simply told us “go inside”. Once there, no more words were spoken, not even a “thank you” or “grazie”. Just a very rough handing over of the card terminal and that was that.
The pasta was ok. Wasn’t great but wasn’t bad either. The price is fair, but it’s not different from nearby restaurants.
On the other hand, the service was poor and made us feel unwanted at all times. It’s possible to find better food and service at the same price in the Quartieri...
