My stay at the Renaissance Naples Hotel was wonderful. The hotel staff were extremely accommodating on several occasions.
The doorman and front desk staff were extremely helpful with our bags, provided a smooth check in upon our arrival, and were accommodating with a late afternoon check out even when their hotel was nearly booked full the next day.
Breakfast on the terrace is lovely and they had a wide variety of food.
We had booked a tour at Pompeii the same day we arrived. I had planned to just try to catch a taxi from Naples since Pompeii is fairly close by. There were no available taxis out front at the time; when Paulo (doorman/bell hop) saw we were struggling, he tried to help get us a taxi. I had gone to ask the front desk if they could call a taxi company for us and when the woman at the front desk asked where we were going and I told her Pompeii, she immediately told me she would make a special call to taxis that are willing to drive from Naples to Pompeii, wait two hours (because that’s how long the tour is - it’s a fixed time slot) and then drive us back to Naples to our hotel for a flat rate of $100 EUR. She said this is a better deal than booking two separate taxis and it is also very hard to get a taxi once you are in Pompeii. Before she could finish the call, Paulo had found a taxi outside that offered this exact service. It was perfect and very convenient. We were so happy we didn’t need to worry about getting a taxi back to Naples.
Our plans changed the day we were supposed to check out. We were a party of 3, and were only staying in Naples one night and then heading to Positano the next day. Due to severe weather, our ferry was canceled the one day we were in Naples and we were unable to rebook for several days. I requested if we could stay another night since we had to cancel and rebook everything and they immediately allowed us to book a second night starting that day and allowed us to keep our same room even when it was an upgraded room with my Marriott status from the original booking. There was zero hesitation. We were very grateful we didn’t have to worry about where we were going to stay that night.
If you stay in Italy long enough or look into the restaurant and museum hours, you know that most places are closed on Sundays. The additional night we added to our stay was a Sunday and very few restaurants were open that night for dinner (probably compounded by the fact that it was pouring rain all day too). I had made a reservation at a restaurant nearby but even though I had made it through Open Table, I wasn’t sure if the restaurant actually uses that service; so before we left, we asked Paulo (who had been coming in and out of the rain all day to help people in and out of the hotel) if he thought the restaurant might honor the reservation. To ensure we got a table, he called the restaurant for us and let them know we tried to reserve a table and that the hotel was calling on our behalf. Not sure what was said because it was all in Italian but I don’t think they ever received my reservation so it was great that Paulo spoke on our behalf. Furthermore, when we got to the restaurant, it was SO busy, they had to turn away about 15-20 people who came in around the same time as us. They gave us a table because Paulo had called for us, otherwise we would’ve had to walk around in the rain looking for a restaurant that was open, which again was very few considering my previous search.
We are so grateful to the hotel staff and I will definitely stay here again and...
Read moreMarriott lists this as a category 5 hotel for them, which seems very overstated.
The lobby area looks nice and well done, so we initially thought all was well. We were greeted as platinum guests and "upgraded," but we still had a small and dated room, so I think the "upgrade" was just a high floor and view of the sea (which I thought I had booked with my reservation), and not anything larger in size. The "panoramic view" associated with our room made me think we would have large windows throughout the room, but we had one kind of small window compared to most hotels. To be honest, the room felt claustrophobic.
Our room was warm and stuffy upon arrival, we are cool sleepers, so we ensured the AC was turned all the way down and went to the restaurant (O'Break) for dinner since we were tired from a day of travel and didn't want to bother finding somewhere else to eat. The restaurant "atmosphere" isn't great and the food is flavorless. When we got back from eating, our room didn't feel any better. We called downstairs, they sent someone up and he said we "had the coolest room in the hotel, and he has a monitor telling him it is 23 degrees (73 Fahrenheit)" We prefer 19/65 or so for sleeping, so that was not satisfying to hear. They offered to clean the filter or maybe bring up a fan, but didn't offer to move us (maybe other rooms really were worse, but I have a hard time believing that), he also told us it was just an issue since it was a south-facing room (it was dark, the curtains were closed and the AC had been running for an hour, plus I thought it was one of the coolest in the hotel per an earlier comment from the same employee).
THEN, as we were getting ready for bed, we discovered we had a fitted sheet and a blanket, but no top sheet! We had to call again and I asked if that was normal, they just sent up spare sheets (both a fitted and top sheet) so my assumption is that it was not. That is gross since I do not think the blankets get washed between each guest. I have never had a hotel bed that was just missing bedding before, we also found some of our hand towels were stained with what I hope was just red make up. The place just didn't even feel clean at that point which is not what I expect from any Marriott.
Breakfast the next morning was relatively standard for buffet breakfasts in Europe, however we received basically no service. My husband asked for water that never came, and the only cappuccino I got came from a self-service "to-go" machine in the patio area.
Overall, we were just glad we were only there for two nights and no longer. This was our last hotel stay at the end of two weeks in Greece and Italy, the other hotels we stayed at were 1-2 categories above this one, but in terms of comfort and competence when issues arose, this seemed truly 10 steps lower. The couple of issues we did bring up just didn't instill any confidence that folks wanted to fix the issues or understood our...
Read moreI stayed in this hotel on July 2024 and overall I really liked the experience here.
A) Underground parking: Once arrived, we dropped-off our car in the underground parking (which costs around €30/day) and we were warmly welcomed from the staff who helped us to carry-on our baggages to our room. Once you drop off you car in the underground parking, you can just call the reception and they will quickly bring your car at the hotel entrance in case you need take it again - I personally found this service super fast and professional and I truly appreciated.
B) Rooms: rooms are cleaned, well-maintained and provided with several amenities including slippers, shower gel, cotton buds, shampoo, tissues and comb. Beds were super large and comfy - only negative side was the lack of sustainability as shower gels and shampoos were provided in disposable and not recyclable plastic containers instead of having refillable bottle usually hanged on the wall.
C) Staff: reception staff (incl. cleaning one) was really super friendly and professional. Once arrived at the check-in, they explained everything in detail and we were warmly welcomed.
D) Breakfast: breakfast was really great with different food options (savory, sweets, fruits). There were also typical foods such as Mozzarella di Bufala, Sfogliatelle, Pastiera and I really appreciated this!
E) Rooftop: the view of Vesuvio and Naples gulf was stunning. We had breakfast at the 11th floor enjoying this amazing view. Moreover, in case you want drink something at sunset or evening, you can enjoy the stunning view also by nights, with wonderful lights of Naples and its gulf.
F) Check-out: checkout procedure was really fast and thanks to our Marriot Elite status we got late check-out at 2PM.
G) Location: the location is simply great. In 2 minutes by walk you are in Via Toledo and you can visit historical city centre in 20 minutes by walk. I definitely suggest this hotel for its strategic position.
Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here and I will definitely stay once again here. I cannot give 5 stars due to lack of sustainability and plastic waste in room amenities that could be...
