Monastero Ristovino — Restaurant in Naples

We went there last week with my husband on the 30th of December. It was our last night in Naples. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. First of all when we asked for the wine list, the waiter told us that they don't have one? He said he would recommend us a good one to match the food that we would order. This seems very unusual and quite non transparent, especially for tourists. As it happens the wine was very good, but it was overpriced at €24 a bottle. After finishing our starter we were left to wait for just over an hour for our main course, with no explanation. We are very patient diners and we don't have any problems with a leisurely dinner, but this was a bit extreme. When we received the main course, it wasn't as advertised. So when we brought this to the waiters attention, he tried to comically bluff his way out of it. Then very quickly he brought us what was advertised but it was completely undercooked and inedible. Then he disappeared completely. In the end we didn't pay for our main course fiasco but we left very hungry after two and a half hours in the restaurant. Shame on them for not treating tourists with enough respect.It never happened to us anywhere else in Ialy but it won't stop us from going to...

Either people reviewing this have no idea what good food and good price is or we went on a very very bad day (unlikely). First in at around 7pm. Just 3 people, we guessed owner and son, with a 'chef'. No English spoken, OK so can muddle through the menu chit chat about wine. Food was very slow to arrive, 1 hour for the primi another 45 minutes after we finish for the secundi. Food arrived, not as described on the menu, seafood was actually meat and bread was fried...something... Small portions compared to prices at other restaurants. Wine is overpriced. No help choosing either just pointing at things. Owner standing smoking on the doorstep. Scooter fumes also distracting. Never a smile, never a thank you 'hope to see you again'. Treated like an inconvenience. Didn't see a single Italian customer in the 2.5 hours we where there. Taste bad, mediocre at best. Had a glass left in the bottle (30 euro bottle by the way), owner asked if we'd leave it for the staff - cheeky (we didn't)! Put your head around the kitchen door, nothing fresh. I went here with my wife last week. Overall terrible experience. The waiter tried to con us from start to finish- no wine list, just one option red or white- why, too busy to deal with us correctly?? We waited over an hour for our main while he was charming all the locals seated at the tables around us.
