A Decent Try, But A Bit Overrated
I had high hopes for Polpi – Panini di Mare in Olbia, especially after seeing so many glowing reviews online. The concept is fun and modern — seafood panini with a creative twist — and for tourists looking for something different, it’s definitely an interesting stop.
I tried their signature octopus sandwich, and while the presentation was nice, the flavors didn’t quite live up to the hype. The bread was a bit dry, and the seasoning lacked depth. The ingredients are fresh, yes, but overall the taste felt somewhat flat and underwhelming — especially compared to other seafood I’ve had in Sardinia.
Service was friendly and quick, and the place has a trendy, casual vibe. It’s clearly popular, and I understand the appeal for visitors looking for a quick and Instagrammable bite. But as someone who was hoping for a truly memorable flavor experience, I left a little disappointed.
Would I recommend it? Sure, for a first-time try or something a bit different than traditional Sardinian fare. But it’s not a spot I’d go back to — not because it’s bad, but because it didn’t leave a lasting impression. A decent stop for tourists, but in my opinion, a...
Read moreI found info about Polpì for pure chance, surfing on socials. And it really was a lucky encounter. Once we got in, we have been assailed by a vibrant and colourful shop, docoured in the shades of the sea. The staff has been really helpful explaining the menu and the ordering process, and helped us understand the use of the voucher we had found online. Ok... Let's speak about food... Octopus... Soft, tender and juicy octopus that fills up every bun, surrounded with different sauces, vegetables and spices, each of those homemade and wonderfully tasty. The octopus recipe itself is marvellously done and such rich of taste that we couldn't stop after the first burger, having to share a third one. The potatoes that come in the menù option are mouth- watering in a rare manner as well, and they come with a fresh selection of different sauces of your choice. I lived 7 years in UK working in the hospitality field, and yes, I would have found such a project overseas, because I can feel all the characteristics of a winning project... One...
Read moreThe place is very clean, bright, minimalistic but unfortunate it has extreme smell of the fried food. Need more windows/ exhaust/ fans in the kitchen as well as in the dining area. Poor hospitality. The cashier guy who's taking orders, didn't even smile nor friendly. Took 20 minutes to order because there's only 1 person handling the frontline and at least 45 minutes to get our food. The food was very fresh but the taste was weird; the mixture of the sauce, seafood patties/ seafood, cheese & veggies didn't get anywhere. Seem to be too much seasonings too. Perhaps we'll order something else for the next time.. However it may take a while to go...
